The CAD$ and the US$ are different currancies and are widely accepted in both countries. For the last few months they have been roughly equal in value with the CAD$ going slightly over then under the US$. Some US retailers and agencies have not been able to accept the 'at par' reality and still charge a premium on the CAD$. For instance, about one month ago the CAD$ was worth $1.05 US. However when we drove on the NY State Thruway (a state operated toll road) they would only accept the CAD$ at $.90 US. Illegal? Probably. Was it wrong? Yes! A government agency stealing $0.15 on every CAD$. Old habits don't like to change. Cheers!! |

Canadian money is worth more than the American dollar as of late due to the decrease of value of our dollar. |

As of this moment. The Canadian dollar is worth slightly more than the US dollar.
A canadian dollar is worth 1.00619 US dollars.
If we don't Improve our economy and stop going into debt with the Chinese, eventually the Monopoly game dollar will be worth more than the US dollar. |

they;re not the same and the current recession in the USA is causing the US$ to be lesser than the CAD |

Exchange rates aside the main differences between Canadian and American money is that we have coins for the $1 and $2 amounts. America has tried twice to replace the $1 bill and failed each time. Basiclly Canada and America have the same unit amounts going from the cent/penny all the way up to $100 bills (I suppose there are bigger bills but I've never had one). With the two dollars at par you have to know your prices for things because some things are cheaper in Canada than in America and vice versa. |

As a person whose job is to follow the market it is at par practically sometimes by a cent or two one might take the lead but it seems to be always falling back to par |

No. The Canadian dollar compared to the US dollar is generally at a higher rate per US dollar. |

It changes daily but US and Canadian money are pretty close to the same value. If you come to Canada its best to get your money exchanged as you will get a better exchange rate at a currency exchange counter or a bank then you will if you try spending your US money here. Most stores will only give you 90 cents on the dollar. Our prices are pretty close to what you all are paying for items. Gas is about $1 a liter right now (a gallon is 3.78 liters) and I think thats somewhere around what your paying....maybe a little more. |

Bear in mind that although Canada and the US use the same symbol for the unit of money = $, these are two different nations with different monetary systems and varying exchange rates. |
