Is it a bad Idea to move to Montreal from toronto if I dont speak any french?

Will I be able to find a job?
I would do just about anything, and I will be taking french language lessons. But I want to move now before the summer. Instead of learning the language first.

no, you can exist in montreal without speaking french (unlike almost anywhere else in quebec), most people are bilingual.

i'm an anglophone and lived there for 6 months a few years ago and everyone i met spoke english and/or french. the trouble was that because i don't speak french, that meant i couldn't do any work dealing with the public. so as an unskilled worked i pretty much had a choice of kitchen or call centre jobs. i hated them both and ultimately, that's why i left.

You can get along just fine in Montreal without french - but learning the language is a great idea because it gives you more scope, especially in the job market.

yes u will get along just fine but learning the language will be an asset. You'll probably pick up a lot of it on your own if u live there anyways

Terra Nostra
My neighbor who only spoke English moved here to Montreal 2 years ago. She got a job in a posh clothing shop and registered for French classes. She purposely moved to a French speaking area (where I live) and practiced French everyday, with neighbors, restaurant staff, grocery store staff, etc. She now is bilingual, happy and settled in. I even heard her speaking French to her little dog!

Do not hesitate! You are welcome here!

The quebec government makes it difficult to get any government services in English and unless you stay in the English part of Montreal the best you can expect for work is a McJob. If you are bound and determined to go to Quebec perhaps a jumping off place would be Ottawa there you can learn more french than you ever would in TO.

Therefore to answer your question YES it is a bad idea to move to Montreal without knowing any French.

Oui, stay where you are, don't move just for work, don't repeat my mistake...z

I think you'll be able to get by with body language. Bonne chance!.

There are parts of Montreal that speak english so you should be ok but the majority of the people there do speak french so you might want to get to know that if you want to get far in the job market there.
