Is it better to fly to Niagara Falls Canada or Niag Falls, NY?

From California, where do I fly to, Canada or Niagara Falls, NY? What would you do and what is closest city to Niagara Falls, Canada to fly into?

I would fly into USA airport Buffalo and then cross over to Canada as it is closer. Other wise it is an easy 4 hour trip in a car.

There are no commercial airports in either Niagara Falls. The closest are Buffalo NY and Hamilton ON. As for cost from California there is no comparison: flying to Buffalo will be much, MUCH cheaper. Southwest flies there (and they have a sale going on at present). However, stay in Canada; it is much, much, much nicer. And since you are Californian you will probably find it interesting to do some wine tasting in the Niagara Peninsula appellation vineyard area.

From California it would be cheapest to fly to Buffalo since it is in the US. To fly across to Canada you would have to fly into Hamilton, which would cost another $100+. The distance from Buffalo to Niagara Falls, and from Hamilton to Niagara Falls is about the same.

The view of the falls is better from the Canadian side, and there is more to do as well (ie. Casino, Maid of the Mist, etc). From Buffalo you can take the bus to the falls, or rent a car.

There is no major airport in Niagara Falls, NY or Niagara Falls, ON that have commercial airline flights. The nearest airport to the falls is Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The falls are only 15 minutes from Buffalo airport. Southwest and JetBlue fly into Buffalo and you can get some good fares from California to Buffalo (usually the Los Angeles flights are direct to Buffalo, other cities will have a connection).

The other closest airport is Hamilton Airport in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It's the closest Canadian international airport to the falls (it's about 45 minutes away), but there isn't a lot of U.S. flights into Hamilton. It's mostly a Canadian domestic airport. And of course, there is always Toronto (1 1/2 hours from the falls) but I suggest that you don't fly into Toronto, unless you plan on visiting the city. It's a major airport so lot's of delays. AA and United have direct fligts to Toronto but they are expensive.

Your best option is to fly into Buffalo, but make sure you stay on the Canadian side. They have more hotels and attractions, and the view is better.

Niagara Falls NY and Niagara Falls Ont. are, as you would expect, right across the river from each other. You can walk across the bridge from one to the other (and should, it's got a great view.)

From California, I'd suggest flying into Buffalo. It's close, it's got lots of flights, although no non-stops from the west coast, and there are low-fare airlines. You can rent a car and be at the Falls in less than 1/2 hr. Or you can fly non-stop to Toronto, rent a car there and it's about 1 1/4 hrs to the Falls. If you don't want to drive, there are limos from both airports.

Even if you fly to Buffalo, bring your passport or birth certificate, because you'll want to visit both sides of the falls.

You can fly to Buffalo Ny which is like 15 mins from Niagara Falls. If you wanna fly in Canada you would land in Toronto then its 1.5 hrs to get to Niagara Falls

you would have to fly into the buffalo airport, the one in niagara falls does not handle commercial flights, mainly charter ones...and if you fly from the us to canada you need a passport to do that, where as if you fly into buffalo you can drive over the border with just a drivers license

fly into NY and rent a car its a better view of the falls on the canadain side all you need to cross the border in a car is a birth certificate

NY because it would be within the country.

I flew from California to Detroit, and rented a car there. Drove across to Windsor, Canada onto Niagara Falls in Canada. If you have a choice, choose the Canadian side, there is no comparison. Also take the boat that goes under the Falls, it is breathtaking. They give you a raincoat and hat, WONDERFUL!!! If you have time, drive up to Toronto and then Montreal. Beautiful. Enjoy. If you have AAA they will give you an Itinerary with maps and everything you need, or find it in the Net. Have fun!! and be careful.

I think you should try the Canadian side, especially if you've never been to Canada. Although I'm sure the NY side is just fine you may want to check out what Canada is like since going to another country no matter how close is always an interesting and enlightening experience.

I have been to Niagara Falls before and I think you should fly to the Canada side. I liked that side better, scenically and there were nicer hotels. Maybe for a city, Ontario.
