I live in the Okanagan Valley in BC.
We have cold winters, and hot summers. Yesterday was 84 F, and we had to have our air conditioner on. In the summer months, it always gets over 100 here. We are classified as semi-desert. In July and August I never have to turn the heat on for my inground pool. The temperatures keep the pool around 84-86. |

Nope, it is not cold all year round in Canada. This is a huge miscomseption. Many believe that it snows all year in Canada and that we live in igloos etc....but it isnt like that at all. Of course the temperature varies based on which province and city you go to, but in general most of Canada will not experience snow or cold weather all eyar round. I live in Toronto and we have hot summers. The temperature is normally 80 ºF-104 ºF. Our springs are warm normally between 75º F- 85 ºF. Our winters are cold normally between 0 º F and 35º F. Our falls are warm-cool...the temperature really varies every year. For all seasons the temperature really varies but this is what it is normally like in Toronto, Ontario. You'll find that the temperature is totally different all over Canada. Canada is very large (2nd largest country in the world) another misconseption...so the temperature is different everywhere in Canada.
Hope that helps

I guess that depends on your perception of "warm" versus "cold".
For example, Canadians often go down to Florida during the winter months to get away from the cold weather and the snow. It is not uncommon to find "snowbirds" (the nickname for a Canadian who went south for the winter) in bathing suits on a beach in Miami or Tampa in January. However, my understanding is that many native Floridans will wear heavy coats and long pants on those same days.
It also depends on where in Canada you want to know about. Much of the southern edge of Canada runs along the 49th parallel (north latitude) and borders the USA, from Washington on the west coast to Maine on the east coast.
Our temperatures range from a typical over 90F July day down to -5F or more in January. That is the typical range for a city like Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and others that are east of the Rockies, but along the southern border.
It gets colder year-round the further north you go. For example, Yellowknife in the Canadian Yukon territory only gets up to about 65F in summer, but can drop below -20F in winter. They have to deal with something called "permafrost", where the ground is permanently frozen in areas and will never completely unthaw. Houses in parts of the arctic circle area are actually built on top of logs or with a crawlspace to prevent the heat from the house from melting the ground beneath it and causing the house to sink into the ground over time.
The only exception to the rule is the southwest coast of Canada, namely the Vancouver area. They have weather similar to northern California. Essentially, it never gets too cold and it never gets too hot, mainly because of the Pacific waters off the coast, and the mountain chain just east of them.
If you want a change of pace from Atlanta, try going to Quebec City during its winter carnival in February. Cheaper than a flight to Europe, and you get to experience a very different culture and lots of outdoor winter events. Check out the website for an example of what to expect. |

No.It`s hot in the summer and the further north you go the winters are longer and have shorter summers. But it still gets nice in the summer. Were am i get a solid 3 1/2 months of 75-90 degree temperatures all summer long and 3 months of nice 60-70 degree weather. It is only below freezing for 3 months, sometimes four. Thanks to global warming are winters have become shorter and milder. It can get hot even in the Arctic ,but summers there are counted in weeks not months. |

We have fairly hot summers, depending on the summer, the past few haven't been too hot, but we're hoping for a warm one this year... lol ... it's normally about 30 celcius in the summer.... not too sure what that is in farenheit though... lol |

It gets pretty freakin' hot here in Winnipeg in July and August. It's not necessarily an everyday heat like you have in the South, but our hot days range from the 80s up towards 100 F. This is usually when we wind up having some pretty wicked thunderstorms, because when the cooler front moves in, it's usually significantly cooler. We had an F5 Tornado just west of us in Elie, Manitoba last year due to some up and down temps.
Luckily, our humidity is fairly moderate, so 90 here is not as bad as 90 in somewhere like Houston. |

I did not see any mention of Calgary's famous Chinooks. When the '88 winter Olympics were on, joggers were running around in shorts, the rest of us in very light clothing and our visitors were all in fur coats.
My advise - expect anything weather wise. Stay long enough and you will probably get anything. :o) |

um NO its not cold all year. its warm in summer which is usually about June to September and ranges from 20-35 C which is nice and warm(75-85F). last summer we had temps over 40 degreese C. we even get humid and smoggy days which can add an extra few degrees. i wish it could be warm like that all the time. i think its the celcius and ferenhight that can throw people off. |
