Is it easier to get a job in Canada? |
I'm deciding whether or not to move to Canada but I want to know if it is easier to get a job over there. And for my husband as well? He has 1 DUI and 4 driving on a suspended license (because he drove to work everyday without a licnese) and now he lost his job due to that and cant get his license back because we had an a**hole judge. It just seems to me like Canada would be a better place to live, but I dont know much about it, can anyone please give me any advice or tell me what you know about Canada and their economy as well. Thank you! |

As the others have noted, your husband would have a difficult time visiting or immigrating to Canada because of his conviction. The Canadian government maintains a list of 'skilled workers'-- if your 'job' is on the list (i.e. if you are a Registered Nurse), you may find it relatively easy to find a job here, and your immigration process will go quite smoothly. The website is: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list
I still suspect that your husband would have a hard time being cleared for immigration here, though I'm not exactly sure if a DUI is one of the offenses that would keep him out. Is it considered a felony in the US?
The Canadian economy is officially in a recession right now, and of course jobs are being lost here too. However, it does not seem as severe as what is happening in the US.
I would encourage you to read the Canadian government immigration website, which may have some options for you, or at least numbers you can call: www.cic.gc.ca |

In order to be allowed to come to Canada, to live and work BOTH of you will have to apply and be accepted, by the Canadian Government.
Our Immigration system is a competition, not a lottery, and each individuals application is examined , based on their years of formal education ( the more the better ) their years of working experience, their working skills, and their criminal record.
If the two of you don't have specific skills that are in demand in Canada, your application will not be approved.
Here is a link to the main Canadian Immigration self test website. Take the test and see for yourself , if you can score the minimum 67 points that are needed to even be considered as applicants, to come to Canada.

You can't just "drive up to Canada and get a job " That is not allowed here.

with a DUI on his record your husband would have trouble being allowed in the country just to visit so would be near impossible to immigrate to canada, he would need a pardon before applying

Canada will not allow those with a criminal record into the country. Why would we?
Are you aware that Canada is in the midst of a deepening recession? We have more than enough of our own citizens who cannot find work without having to consider foreign workers. Sorry, it's nothing personal.
Even if your husband managed, somehow, to get into the country, do you honestly think he would be able to find a job if he has a DUI and driving without a license? He would never be bonded by any company.
I also strongly suspect that the reason your husband cannot get his license back is that he had decided to ignore the law in the first place and not because you had "...an a**hole judge."
Based on what you have written, I highly doubt either of you would even qualify to come here in the first place. Canada is not some sanctuary for people who think they can start over again just like that - and especially not for anyone with a criminal record. |

It would be harder here...our beer is stronger and would just get him another DUI.
DUI is a criminal offense here and not taken lightly...he would not be allowed. |

um you cant just move to canada, only those born here, family of, or with something us canadians need in our economy is welcome. |

Apologies, but Immigration Canada is more picky with immigrants from the US or developed countries. They would usually not allow criminals in, however you can get pardons and that sort of thing. The easier way to do it would be for you to get a job here in Canada, and then have him come on a family immigration procedure. Hope this helps! :) |
