Canada is much less expensive than Britain. Hotels are cheaper, food is less and even Gasoline (Petrol) is a bargain in Canada.
Although none of us over here will admit it Canada is pretty inexpensive to live in. Except when compared to the USA. But that is another story.

It is hard to think of any place anywhere in the world that is expensive when compared to England.

Oh yes, by far. Here's a comparison.
When I was in England my aunt gave me 50 pounds for a gift. She wanted me to spend it there. We went to the mall and found a pair of jeans i liked. They were 40 pounds. With the conversion that equals about $80 Canadian. Those exact same pants in Canada would cost me $40 (or 20 pounds). So everything is pretty much half price here. My aunt also brought her babysitter with her the one time when she came home and when we went to the mall she actually bought about $600 worth of clothes because everything was so cheap. It would've cost her 600 pounds to get that in England. (or the equvilent to $1200 Canadian) She was so amazed.
My advice when shopping in Canada: Our taxes aren't included int he price tag. They are added on afterwards. So if you are in Ontario and the tag says $10, it is going to end up costing you $11.30 (our tax is 13% in Ontario...it's different in other provinces). The only thing tax is already on is alcohol. Just so you know. lol

From my trip to London a few years back, I would say that things are more expensive in UK than here in Canada.

My best example was that I felt like having pizza one evening while there, and so went into the local Pizza Hut because I figured there would not be a big difference in flavour at a chain like that.

For the personal pizza and drink I ordered, it was over 12 pounds, which at the time was something like CAD$27 !! The same meal would have been about $16 here in Montreal.

The only things I found reasonably priced in UK was alcohol and seafood. And if you took a private taxi it was affordable, but the public black cabs were crazy expensive.

I depends on if you're talking about living there or vacationing.

Vacation-wise, yes England is much more expensive. Many things will have the same numerical price but when you convert the pounds to dollars you realize that you're paying twice as much.

Now, when it comes to living it becomes very hard to compare because they actually have higher salaries. When I was contemplating moving to England the salaries for comparative jobs were twice as much. So, yes the cost of living is twice as much but you also get paid twice as much...so it balances out.

England is twice as expensive because the currency, pounds, is twice as strong. A big mac in Britain will cost 5 pounds, or $10. A big mac in Canada will cost 2.5 pounds, or $5! This comparison is called the Big Mac index.

I live in Scotland but am from Canada and go back fairly often. I usually just think of the cost of things in pounds and dollars as roughly the same - if something is 20 pounds here, I assume it will be about 20 dollars in Canada. There are some exceptions - groceries seem to be more equivalent between the two countries, for example. Restaurant food is way cheaper in Canada, though - go figure!

Less expensive. I live in the most overpriced real estate market in Canada and a guy I worked with said that you get so much more house for your money here.

My experience is limited to Southern Ontario where compared to the U.K. almost everything is much cheaper. Food, clothing, transport even the housing. White goods e.g. washing machines etc. and computer equipment.
