Edmonton is about the same as Toronto as far as the cost of living. If you can deal with the brutal winters there then it would be a nice place to live.

I'm not sure

Unlike some of the other people who replied I actually know what I am writing of as I used to live in TO and now live in Edmonton.
But first - to the lady who dismissed thoughts that Edmonton is not beautiful.... it's isn't Xanadu but it does have the largest urban park in the country. The valley is a wonderful and beautiful place to live near espec. when compared to the Don River. Hate to tell you this but Toronto is flat and boring (geographically). But you do have the Islands!!! I love the Islands.
Anyways - Edmonton and Toronto are quite similar in price. 5 years ago this was not the case but Edmonton housing prices have skyrocketed. Rents are comparable as well, and gas prices, food etc. all comparable.
a good bargain in Edmonton? airfare to Vancouver!!! With a decent job you can spend many a long weekend in Lotusland.
Edmonton's a bit cheaper than Toronto, and everything about the city is better. Better shopping, people, city gov't, schools, and mass killings don't happen every day.
Edmonton is best!

They are around the same price range for basic living expenses. However, I think that the housing is much cheaper in Toronto than Edmonton. Both are very beautiful cities, I must agree, though i prefer Toronto.
Hope this helps.
