Is it possible to travel US without visa if I only have Canadian PR Card?

Hello,

Last month I got my Canadian PR card. I presume it would take three more years to get my Canadian Passport. My uncle stays in New Jersey. Recently he had an accident. I want to visit him. But is it possible to travel US with my PR card? Or do I have to apply US embassy for visa?

If someone could clarify the matter I would be grateful.

Thanks.

looking at your yahoo id name... i would guess you're from somewhere in south asia or middle east. then yes, you would need a US visa.

if your home country needs a visa to gain entry into the US, then you would need a visa to go to the US irregardless of your canadian PR. the US looks towards a person's country of citizenship to allow entry into their country.

it might be tough to get a tourist visa so soon though... i applied for a US tourist visa 3 months after becoming a canadian permanent resident. i was denied. i asked the consul why and he said it's too soon. that i needed to establish myself in canada before they can give me the visa. he said it's usually around 6 months that they consider established... that and a full time job.

It depends on where your home passport is from. However, you are much morelikely to get a US visa now that you have a PR card than you are without it.

You have to have a visa if you are a permanent resident

What country is your passport from?

I don't know what a PR card is, but if you have a passport from your home country, you should be ok for a short visit.

I would check with the passport agency in Canada, the US passport department, the Department of State, and your home passport agency. Somewhere among those, you ought to get the accurate answer.

Hope your uncle gets well, soon.

Sorry, but you need the proper documents. Maybe you can get your VIsa expedited because of special circumstances.

you have to have a visa
