Is it possible to travel from Montreal to Calgary by train?

Plane tickets from Montreal to Calgary appeared to be way too expensive for me. Is there any other way to travel from Montreal to Calgary (train/bus)?

No by train. Greyhound takes less than 3 days (meal stops only) and it costs about 620.00 return. But if you buy a Discover pass for 750.00 you can travel anywhere in North America on Greyhound for up to 60 days. Stop for a day or 2 anywhere. Then get back on a bus and go someplace else.
Or if you just want to get to Calgay and Greyhound isn't too fussy about picture ID maybe you could use it to get to Calgary, then sell it to someone else.

Which airline were you looking at? Westjet (westjet.ca) has a seat sale on right now which might help you out with costs. Flying would actually be cheaper than taking the train, believe it or not - unless you take the train in the off-season and purchase your tickets far in advance.

The Via Rail website is www.viarail.ca.

By far, the cheapest of the three options is taking the Greyhound bus - but also the most uncomfortable. You can purchase a go-anywhere fare for a very low cost, but it means that you must take one non-stop trip (in other words, you can't break it up over a few days). It takes about 3 days. I guess it just depends how easily you can sleep on the bus.

You could also consider taking a detour down to the states and taking an American Amtrak train. It's much, much cheaper than taking Via Rail. You can take the Amtrak from Montreal to Schenectady, NY, then head west as far as somewhere like Browning, Montana (just south of Calgary) and then have someone pick you up there.

The train is very expensive. I bussed from Kitchener, ON - which is about 6 hours away from monreal, to Calgary and it took about 3 days.It was crazy because the bus stops every 2 hours and you see every bus station in the country. Honestly it was fun and all but i think once was enough.

There is no passenger rail service to Calgary. You could go to Edmonton on Via Rail then to Calgary by either bus or plane.

Yes you can Via-rail it but it wouldnt go straight there you would have to take pit stops in Some places like Sudbury Manitoba etc i beleave its a 3 day trip
