I hold a Latvian aliens passport(As i am of Russian Descent) but currently live in UK and hold a Residence permit. I've been wanting to move away to Canada for quite some time.
I've been working as a truck driver for over 20 years. And i know that workers in this sector are in demand over there. But i need a Work permit for me and my family to live and work there.
I've emailed so many companies through Canadian Job Bank, but haven't even received a response from most of them.
Am i doing something wrong, is there any help i can get in regards to this, there are a lot of companies who 'say' they can get you a job, work permit etc but charge thousands not hundreds.
Is there any real places i can turn to. Any Job search websites that look for workers from abroad.
Thanks for any help at all.

With the recession, there is no shortage of truck drivers in Canada. Thus, you will not find someone to sponsor you. Sorry.
It would be another story if you were a civil or petroleum engineer. |

Katie - no it isn't. Asker - Go to Canada and look for work there.
The ignorance on here is rife:
Emigrate = to go to another country to live
Immigrate = someone moving into your country.
So - if you do move to Canada, from your perspective you have emigrated while to a Canadian's perspective you have immigrated. Clear? |

Don't listen to chuckles. There are a ton of jobs in western Canada right now. In fact, I am a recruiter, and we have sponsored a number of people in the past year due to a lack of Canadians to take jobs. The key for your dad is to apply for jobs in western Canada, especially Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, and Edmonton. I'm not too familiar with Alberta, but if he is looking for employment in Saskatchewan, he can go to www.sasknetwork.ca or www.reginajobshop.ca. Both of these sites have a ton of postings in the trades currently. Also, there is some info below on Alberta. |

Immigrate or emigrate are both used terms Katie; you can use either, check your dictionary.
Canada still has jobs especially in Western Canada. If you are stuck on the idea of living in a big Canadian city like Toronto you may have some trouble finding a job. But c'mon out to Alberta or Sastkatchewan! We have tons of jobs. You'll like it here; much more room to breathe than the UK. |

My aunt and uncle moved to canada 6 years ago..
My uncle drives lorries/trucks and he has no problems finding jobs there everywhere and he gets very good pay. You just need to look in the right areas i guess. |
