Is it safe to walk around Windsor, Ontario at night? |
We're planning a bachlorette party and the hotel is only about 1 mile from casino windsor. I was wondering if it will be safe for 5 girls to walk that mile (right on the river by the bridge) or if we should take a cab. We're planning to drink and no one wants to be the designated driver -- thus the plan to sleep it off at the hotel. Thanks for your advice. |

Windsor is definitely safer than Detroit, but you still have to act reasonably. Take a cab! Cheers!! |

I live in Windsor and work at the Casino. I also live on Riverside Drive myself. Other than a cluster of hotels within a block or two of the casino (the Hilton, Radisson, Days Inn, Quality Suites), I cannot think of a hotel a mile away on the river by the bridge...in fact, the bridge itself is about 3 miles from the casino, and there is no hotel right near the bridge. If you are talking about off the bridge further up Huron Line (there's a Holiday Inn there, Super 8, etc.), then you are talking at least 5 miles. To me, either of these distances are too far to walk, especially at night, after drinking. To me, it is not a question of safety...just endurance!
As far as safety, you will be fine. Anywhere downtown, or around the casino, there is always tons of people,
and you are pretty much safe anyway. It is definitely not like Detroit, so don't worry that way. Even walking a distance you will be OK but, like I said, I can't even think of a hotel that's right near the bridge.
If you want, you can email me with the name of the hotel and/or the address and I can give you a better idea of distance, but really if you are talking right near the bridge you are at least 3 miles away from the casino. |

Yea, very safe. I live in Michigan & have lots of friends from Windsor. We have walked around many nights & none of us were sober. 1 mile is nothing, if you're out on Friday or Saturday.. you will not be alone on the streets, especially downtown. |

Windsor does not have a history of being a dangerous place to walk the streets. However I would play it safe, and get a cab, you can never be too cautious. |

You had better get a cab. Some/all may be drinking, with judgment impaired. No shortage of people desiring to take advantage of that situation. I wouldn't call safe any place one mile from downtown Detroit. |

If Windsor were a US city, it would rank #1 in Safety, so don't worry about it too much, |
