Is it true that Canada will be split in three countries in the long term? What do you think?

This may sound crazy, but a guy told me there were some talks in the government to establish a some sort of North-American Union, just like in Europe, as Canada is too big to manage from Ottawa, it will be split in some sort of three country alliance as follows:
- British Columbia and Alberta will form a new nation, probably called just "Columbia" or "Western Confederation"
- Quebec will form its own nation
- The rest of Canada will be still Canada

Oh, and Ontario is going to join the U.S.

Do you think the government was talking about this at a certain moment or will happen someday? I've also heard that Americans and Canadians will be able to move freely within the 4 nations, so someone from Florida will be able to work in Winnipeg for example, just like in Europe !! What do you think about this? Do you think an "American Union" may be possible in the future? In 80 years or so
Additional Details
I don't have a source it is that someone told me and I found it weird, but then I thought, if Europe is like that, why not America

"Canada is too big to manage from Ottawa"

False. Its worked for the last 140 years. We managed it when the only way to get across Canada was via railway, so we can certainly do it when we have e-mails, the Internet etc.

Even if it WAS being discussed in the government, nobody would ever go for it.

Where are you hearing this nonsense? Canada is united and together and will remain that way...

:)
The Beach Boy's had it right... Wouldn't it be nice!

Doubtful though, I've never heard of this before and, frankly, I don't know where this information came from. Do you have any sources? Otherwise, this just seems like something you've dreamt up.... And I mean that it the nicest way, it's quite a dream!

I think it'd be nice to be able to just work where ever you want and go where ever you want like Eurpope.

But I'm from Ontario and I'll be damned to call myself an American or to say I live in the U.S. I'm sure alot of people would fight that. I am proud to say I am Canadian NOT American!

Love Canada
You have it all mixed up
The three countries they talk about are Canada, US, Mexico
It ain't going to happen, to many basic differences, Canadians like it the way it is, and so do the Americans

There is a difference between the European Union, and any kind of proposed North American Union. For one thing, other than geographically Canada is not a big nation. More people live in California alone than in all of Canada, and the economy is bigger too. The EU is largely a partnership of equals, but in a North American situation the USA would have too much push compared to Canada and Mexico.

There are almost three times as many people in Mexico as in Canada.

I don't see how a political union of Canada and the US and Mexico would benefit anyone except the US--given that both Canada and Mexico are oil-exporting countries rich in natural resources.

If the people in Quebec were asked, point blank, a simple question--"Are you in favour of Quebec becoming a totally independent and autonomous nation?" the answer would be an overwhelming "NO!!!" Or should I say "NON!!!"

The Western Canada Concept has been thorougly washed up, and discredited by its connection to crackpot Christian fundamentalism and anti-Semtism. They're done. They're a joke.

The whole idea is plain ridiculous! Think about it... if B.C and Alberta form one country and Quebec forms another with Ontario joining the U.S., that still leaves Saskatchewan and Manitoba, all of the Territories and the atlantic provinces to form another. How would that be easier to run from Ottawa?

Never going to happen!

That's retarded. Just because Canada is big in size we only have 30 million people. The states has over 300 million and they have no problems. That's so stupid Jebus! They are thinking making a common currency for all of north America tho (Canada, America, Mexico) just like Europe has the Euro

MasterPython
Quebec won't seperate, they would be flat broke in weeks and they know it.

Western seperation is only likely if some idiot politician decides to do something monumentaly stupid at the exspence of the western provinces. And after the next census the west is getting more seats on parliment so this is unlikely.

Canada is a very Liberal place, our Conservatives are on about the same place on the political spectrum as moderate Democrats the Liberals are even further left and the NDP are practicaly communists. There are some Albertans that would be happy as Americans but thats it.

It could go either way as far as a North American Union goes.
