About every 14 months the seismic activity increases in Vancouver/Victoria. That window is now. Here is a copy of the news story from CTV

Earthquack? Maybe a giant duck is gonna hit...

The truth of the matter is that the big one could hit at any time. The reason that they are now saying that it is going to hit in the next two weeks is because the regular tremors that happen are occurring closer together (sort of like contractions for a woman going into labour, the closer they get together the closer you get to delivering the baby). The fact of the matter is that this area had been subject to a major earthquake about Every 200-300 years with the last being in 1799. According to this information we are due any time, the joys of living over a subduction zone. There is about 2 feet of earth that is stuck or jammed and when it finally "snaps" there is going to be a major quake. Now wether that is today or five years from, no one really knows. Predicting earthquakes is one of the most difficult sciences out there. All they can do is try and prepare the general population of the area so that when it does hit there are people who are prepared.

What the hell is an earthquack?

Brian
Who knows. Tremors have been felt this week under Vancouver Island, and the Vancouver area is well known to be sitting on a fault line. See the attached from CBC news.

I am sure "someone" "somewhere" has probably predicted such a thing ... as well as the world is gonna end Jan 1, 2000 .... and we all know what happened to that .....

In other words, dont believe the quacks, lol

EDIT: thank you Cherry Blossom for the info and the link!!!
You get MY vote for best answer! You go girl!!

Today they just announced in the local papers that the tremors along the fault line have ceased - which was sooner than predicted by the scientists. Looks like a false alarm. Thank goodness.

Cheers,

Petra M, Vancouver

They thought so for a while, but think its very unlikely now. So no need worry. People they spelt it wrong, don't go all crazy.

Brian
That's when a duck flies right into the ground, right? Yes, absolutely gonna happen.

I took a geology class last semester, and i'm pretty sure there's no way to predict an earthquake, i may be wrong, but they can estimate like "there will probably be one 2050" or something, but i dont think they can do it down to the day or anything.hope it helps....

robee
What type of duck is that?
