The stories on that website are somewhat true but also very misleading. We have this immigration class called skilled worker. You don't need a job offer to apply and you don't need to start off on a temporary work permit. You have to qualify under a points system, you get points for education, work experience etc. It depends on where you are applying from but in some cases it can take up to 6 years to get approved. For some reason, some people believe that if they qualify through the immigration points system and wait their turn for processing, they have some promise of a job when they get here.
Not so. Just because immigration gave them points for their education and experience doesn't mean that they can walk into the same job they had in the old country. It doesn't even mean that they will find a job doing exactly what they were doing before. They have to adapt, start a peg lower and work their way up again, maybe shift their career a bit. The people at notcanada.com have been disappointed that they could not walk into the same jobs they held before in old country and seem to be spending their time complaining about it rather than trying to better their situation.

There are many more immigrants that do well. Maybe they have to work on getting re-certified in Canada before they can do the same type of work or maybe they have to start a bit lower and work their way up. Maybe they have to be flexible to move to a "less interesting" city to find a job. There are also many people coming in on temporary permits because they got a good job in their field and through provincial nominee programs can change these temporary permits into permanent residency. Even on a temporary permit, if the original employer happens to not be very nice, you can change your workpermit to another one.

I am an immigrant myself and I work in a company that brings in a lot of foreign workers. Some of them choose to go back home after a couple of years, some stay with the company, some stay in Canada but move to a different company. None of them are getting abused because they are immigrants.

you are probably referring to doctors and other professionals who come from India, Egypt or elsewhere and they are now driving cabs here in Canada for minmum wage. The thing is, a degree in other countries outside Europe/North america doesn't mean much here. They cannot just jump in and start practicing as it doesn't ensure that professionals meet all the North American standards of their trade. Its a problem and governmment is working on trying to get foreign degrees more recognized here but to be honest there is some sense in making sure that a doctor trained in a clinic in Mumbai meets the competency standards for our docs. (at least if its me lying on the table.. ) or that an engineer trained in the Phillipians builds a bridge here in Canada. I think a lot of people are misled and think the streets are paved in gold but no we use pavement like everyone else and everyone here had to meet the requirements and due process to meet the standards,

I researched this for someone who would come to Canada legally as a construction worker. When I read a number of reports on how new immigrants are treated they led me to suggest he did not come.

do you mean immigrant?

jesus.
Immigrants are not suffering, however there are poor people, but anyone could be poor

SAGE
Actually immigrants are treated better than citizens in Canada in most cases. Look up Canada's immigration policies , it's no secret Canada is a soft pushover.

Rio R
Immigrants on the whole fare better here than compared to our neighbours down south. US is more of a gamble, Canada is the land of mediocrity.
