I guess you haven't had much experience outside of Canada. I hope you are aware that there are millions of Americans applying for immigration status in Canada. So, ask yourself why are there so many Americans trying to get into Canada if the USA is so much better...

Nice thing about being Canadian is that you can be anything you want to be. In that respect this is truly a free country. of course if you want to be a gangster, we will try to catch you and put you in jail as is our legal right. So if you want to go to the States and if you are old enough to act on your want without parental consent, I sure would not stop you. Another thing about being born in Canada is that if and when you get fed up with it all, you can always come home.

I am not sure why anyone would want to be cannon fodder for any army but I suppose that is your right too. Gotta tell you though - Canadian soldiers are generally highly regarded just about everywhere in the world. (I put in a link to a great bio about a truly great Canadian soldier for you to read. I think you will like it.) This is not true of our American neighbours. If the situation were such that I had to be a soldier, I would far prefer to wear the Maple Leaf on my arm than any other insignia. But it's your life and it is also your call, kiddo. Maybe a few Reality 101 classes would not be a bad idea. Just an idea. Good luck whatever you end up doing.

What ever floats your boat. When you are old enough....or able to, leave. Go where you are happy.

You don't need any help to join the US army. Cross the border, speak with a recruiter and they will fix you up with a green card and everything as long as they want you. You only need to be a citizen of the US to be an officer. You can be cannon fodder with just a green card.

join the Canadian army, they are well respected, the Americans are not in general, at the moment you probably don't know any different, once you been out of Canada, you'll know home is best.

You sound as I did when I was young and naive. It is very hard to not be taken aback by the great American propaganda machine. I wanted to join the US Navy, not the "pathetic" Canadian navy.

Over time I learned more about world history, 20th century history, American and Canadian history, as well as followed American/Canadian politics and US/Can news.

There is nothing really wrong with what you feel but you shouldn't feel ashamed to be Canadian however. Canada may not be as flashy as the US is but we are very respected around the world and we do our thing in our own unique way.

I feel that as you mature you will change your mind as I did. I also would not want to be in the US army as long as they are in Iraq. The Canadian military has a long and proud history and have the reputation as some of the most professional soldiers in the world. We are doing the heavy lifting over in Afghanistan and we need more young men like you to sign up so we can help the people of Afghanistan live a better life than what they had under the Taliban and to export our Canadian values. The Canadian military can be an excellent career and can set you up for great employment opportunities after the military.

Recently I had that feeling again with the election of President Obama, but I can appreciate him from this side of the border.

The USA and Canada are not that different.
One big difference is Americans act more patriotic then Canadians but that doesn't mean they really are. We are just more humble and more tolerant. I like the US, but I would never go live there and give up my citizenship. I would rather fight to make this country better, even though I think we are the best.
Anyway, if you want to go to the States good luck.
My Canadian Uncle joined the American army to go fight in Vietnam so it is possible.

I wouldn't say weird, but different, as I don't know why you wouldn't take more pride in being a Canadian. I am Canadian and proud. If you want to go to the U.S., I wish you luck = ) .

It doesn't really matter what people think, it's what you think that makes a difference. One can only wonder how much experience you have had with US conditions, whether you have spent time there, whether you are aware of some of the drawbacks or whether you are simply besotted by Hollywood's depiction of the US.
If you want to join the US army, contact the US military recruiters. They can tell you exactly what the process is and whether you are eligible or not.

hey dude. My mum's an american and my dad's canadian. I'm an american born abroad and there is nothing wrong with wanting to be an american. But be warned some of them think some crazy crap about canadians. I've been asked numerous times if I like the igloos and they weren't kidding.

Personally canadian and american are the same thing. American's just care more about their country and are way more patriotic. Try spending July 4th down there!

I don't find that wierd at all. I too am Canadian but I don't like it when Americans say "Ha! you say ABOOT! you have an accent" We don't.

In these economic times, Canada is laughing right now. We're only going down because the south is dragging us down...

I consider myself a "North American" but when I think about it, i'd rather have pride in Canada. Free health care, 20% of fresh water in the world LITERALLY 5 minutes away from my house. That's cool.
