Well, In Canada we enjoy all the same freedoms afforded americans, minus "right to bear arms" of course, plus MANY more. Canada is a secular society, with religion playing a minimal part in anything public. We have Universal Health Care, excellent educational standards, abundant natural resources, superior quality of life....the list is endless. The only thing I can think of that someone immigrating from the states might not like, is that they cannot carry a gun here.

I'd like to know too, especially if McCain and Palin wins the election.

Canada is an awesome place to live. Business week raked Vancouver 4th on thier list of best cities in the world to live and Toronto number 15. Ottawa ranked 19.

no, not really. plunk an amercian down on the streets of any canadian city or visa versa and you wouldn't really notice much difference or be able to immediately identify what country you were in.
As the border plaque says; Brethern of a common mother ,

Yes and no. Yes in the sense that you pay higher taxes to pay for your health care and subsidize other members of the population. The economy is very dependent with the U.S. business environment so they also take a hit if the U.S. experiences a downturn. Much of the food there also comes from south of the border. And winter there is much harsher so your aching joints may be a problem. The plus side is you may develop and improve your hocky skills if you are that athletic.

Hi G..
You are lucky to be living in the USA.. & I reckon Canada as a country must have many similarities, I got friends & family in both. Its down to personal pref.. then consider geographical lay out......rural or urban.... population density.. and politicians that is.. how good they are at their job. In other words the shape of the economy.

& look at the Captains answer above this one.. the league tables will give you a great indication on quality of life from city to city.. etc.

Where in Canada you live and your linguistic capabilities play a vital role as well.

Outwardly the same but inside worlds apart. We have many socialist policies which we are proud of such as universal health care, when we go to the hospital we show our health card not our VISA card. We don't carry guns and most Canadians abhor the constant gun violence in the U.S. we don't tend to worship the almighty dollar as is common in the U. S. Canadians tend to be more worldly then Americans and more respectful of others customs. That's not intended to be American bashing, most of my relatives are Americans but just my observances during my travels.

For a normal person, living a day to day live I would say they are pretty much the same. We have health care and gun control and safety is better on the Canadian side but otherwise it is the same.

Although many Canadians would argue - other than the health system - they are pretty much the same. They have guns too....it's really very similar.

Both have the bad - crime, racism, bigotry - and the good - freedom, representative government, doughnuts...Some parts of Canada and the US have very clean air/water standards - others, not so much.

Yes, French Canadians speak French - but then again much of the Western US speaks Spanish in addition to English.

They are very very similar.

pretty much but the people are a lot more grounded there. some may see that as a boring trait i however think it makes for a more peaceful life

i sure hope so... cause america is not at its prettiest, in any aspect.

Absolutely! Just be sure to leave your guns behind!

Besides the change in government and different currency & such, no.
It's pretty much the same, except that we almost never get hurricanes, we have loads of snow in the winter, and you will eventually end up seeing a moose at one point in your life.

Ha ha, kidding about the moose part, I've never seen one and I've been living here all my life.

Another thing would be that we have French and English on all of our labels instead of just english, and we use kilometers instead of miles ; so, it might be kinda hard driving until you're used to that. We also have a much better health care system, and I don't think that we even have private healthcare (not in NB anyway).

I think that covers it all ..

I think it depends on what area your talking about. Some areas in canada are very beautiful, some, not so much, same a the US. Although i don't the fact that you can carry a gun everywhere in america, but that's not for me to criticize. All im saying is, they are both VERY similar.

not any different at all, except maybe the rules and language, but place-wise, you would see no difference in canada and usa, coz they are geographically similar.

It's a lot different because Canadians are different than Americans. Where America prides itself on being a melting pot, and aims at a heterogeneous society, Canada is a mosaic and encourages people of different races and faiths to maintain their original cultures within the facade of Canadianism.
Canada's political system is different, as is the Canadian legal system and the Canadian health system.

We have to register our guns (waste of time/money)
We have a better health care system.
US has better movies.
We have French as a second language instead of your Spanish.
Gas seems to be cheaper here.

Fireball226
yes its alot colder and they all have health insurance..

Varies.

Canada and the US are like twins, however we have cleaner air/water, better education for children (if you have any) and medical care. I'm probably missing a few things. But aside from that Canada and the US aren't very different.

And the one problem is cost of living here in Canada is HIGH.
