Vancouver is much safer than most US cities. Violent crime rates are very low (e.g. so far this year there have been 7 murders), which is a fractional rate compared to comparably sized cities south of the border. There is petty crime, but again it is exception rather than the rule. Having said that, there are parts of the city such as East Vancouver - adjacent to Hasting St that its best to avoid. As in any large metropolitan area there are places to shun, especially after dark.

Most Neighbourhoods are safe and hospitable & schools are good. Vancouver is consistently rated as one of the most livable cities in the world for very good reason.

It is safe, but it is also quite a big city, with a lot of suburbs, and of course it had a really bad section.
I am a mom raising my kids here, and there is quite a bit to offer.
But it rains a lot. A LOT!!!! I have lived here for a year, and no one told me how much it rains. . . .you think you know. . . .but really you have no idea until you are here.

It is safe. If you like the outdoors, it will be a heaven for you. Nightlife sucks.

99% of the city is very safe and the major problem area is being cleaned up.
There are many neighborhoods in Vancouver, so it's hard to know which one you are talking about. Vancouver has Kitsilano, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Hastings East, Little Mountain, Fairview, Fraser -- lots of districts, and is also part of the Greater Vancouver district, which includes Burnaby, New Westminster, North Vancouver, West Vancouver - you should google up a map and see just how large Vancouver is and what the different districts are.
The schools are generally very good.

It is a very safe city. I moved here only 1 year ago and I have yet to have a problem. If you are looking at being close to downtown, here is an article that may help you out. at least give you names of neighbourhoods...... http://www.helium.com/tm/412291/cities-usually-define-neighborhoods

although it's much cheaper to live in the suburbs.
