There are advantages and disadvantages to both countries. It is a bit unfair to compare the two, as US has many more people, while Canada covers more actual geographic territory.
Canada does seem to have a better education system, less crime in most cities, higher life expectancy, and are generally more respected in the rest of the world than Americans.I have heard that some US embassies have advised their citizens in the past to sew a Canadian flag on their luggage or wear a red maple leaf symbol if they want to face less hostility in European and Middle-Eastern countries.
On the other hand, Canada has a very high tax rate, we have an aging baby boomer population, and our declining birthrate has forced our government to relax its policies towards immigrants, to the point that some people coming to Canada cannot even speak one of the two official languages (English or French), which was a requirement in the past. Our gas prices are high (hovering between $5.60 and $6.00 per US gallon lately) mainly because of all the fuel, excise, and sales taxes on it.
And we Canadians are about to go into an election in October that was hastily called (we dont do ours every four years). We don't care too much for our present prime minister, but the opposing parties have not really shown us that they would do any better job if they got in...if anything they seem to be more messed up and bickering than the guy in office!
So it's your choice, but remember that the grass always seems to look greener on the other side of the road. But once you get there, it may not be all its cracked up to be. In fact, it may just be more of the same.
Just a couple of comments for the answers you got. I don't usually like to criticize people who answer, but do see the need to correct things that are wrong.
Coolkid mentioned that USA is in the best position globally to deal with the global warming issues and changing climate. I'm not sure he watched the same National Geographic program I saw, because they indicated that the oceans of the world could rise as much as a foot over the next century if our present warming trend does not change. That change would see Houston, New Orleans, Miami, and most of New York City underwater. The midwest would become arid and desert-like if irrigation systems were not in place. And not to mention the ever present possibility that the fault lines in California shift again, with a major earthquake or possible volcanic activity in the region similar to the Mount St. Helen's explosion. Meanwhile, it has been said that the world will become more ane more dependent on a more important commodity than gas, and that is fresh water, something Canada has an abundance of. It is not far fetched to consider a US invasion of Canada if its citizens were deprived of fresh and inexpensive water supplies.
And to Ben, who says Canada's healthcare is free. We do not have free healthcare, we have universal healthcare. You may not pay to see a doctor as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, but the taxes that EVERYONE pays goes toward paying the medical staff who treated you during your visit. You may not see the bill because it is hidden in the income tax you paid at the end of the year, on the DVD you bought in the store, or the corporate taxes that GM Canada paid last year, that raised the cost of that new Chevy Equinox by an extra $1000. |

I have been a Canadian my whole life and I have traveled to the States, all over Europe, Central and Southern America, and parts of Asia. I would have to say in my biased opinion that Canada is the best country in the world to live. There is so much freedom up here, the land is amazing, people are concerned about the environment and about each other's well being.
Taxes and Gas prices are higher but healthcare is free (yes free). We have some of the best academics in the world and our economy especially in the west is absolutely booming. I work as an Electrical Engineer and there is so much work I could find a new job every month if I wanted to. Even the Electricians where I live make over $80,000/year. Canada funds the arts, we don't push religion on you, and we say "sorry" when we bump in to other people.
I love this country and I wouldn't rather live anywhere else. |

Depends on your prefrence.
You can find any area of each country with the same things. In the US you can have your busy cities & a-holes - same with Canada.
In the US you can have your laid back country settings - samw with Canada.
You just have to weigh out the pros & cons & what you're looking for really. |

Canada has a better health care system and a better housing market to name a few. Canada doesn't pay the high premiums like US. They have a universal health care system. In Canada, they are not as lenient as America was in issuing mortgages.
I would look into each province for the weather, economic and employment situation, and extracurricular activities.
From what I understand, Alberta and Saskatchewan are booming due to the petroleum industry. |

I will think that Canada is better for now and in future (even when US economy picks up). Canada lifestyle is slower pace while US is having a hectic lifestyle.
Canada is a good place to retire, or recuperate from all the stress that all humans are facing. Of course, the living expenses in Canada is on the high side, comparable to US, but there won't be much you can do there in fact. Except for being a coach potato, fishing by the rainbow lake, farming etc. **RELAX**
This is my personal view only. Make the right choice ya. Cheers |

Hell no, in a couple years every country besides the united states will be hit by mother nature dramatically. The earth is gonna allign itself with the milky way and we're gonna have intense weather but because of how the U.S. is positioned in the world we wont get it that bad. :D |
