It's the tallest. Big refers to land size.. So it's tall.

Burj Dubai in the UAE is incomplete and currently taller than the CN tower. The CN Tower is the 2nd tallest now.

Bob D
2nd tallest free standing structure, one in Dubai is taller, built in the last 2-3 years.

It was the tallest man made structure in the world up until a short while ago. I believe the tallest structure in now in Dubai.
However, the CN tower has installed glass floors in their elevators.Must be quite an experience.

It is the tallest structure in the world.

No it isn't regardless of what anybody from Toronto will tell you.

It's the "tallest freestanding structure" in the world and will be for another year or so until that tower in Dubai is finished.

Malik C
The CN Tower is not officially recognized as a building. Instead, it is considered a tower. It is the tallest freestanding structure in the world.

A few things to note. The tallest building (including antenna/spire) is the Sears Tower. The tallest building (to roof top) is the Shanghai World Financial Tower.

NOTES:
Also, though not considered a FREESTANDING structure, the tallest thing in the world is actually a television transmitting tower at 628M. It is not counted because it his held down with wires, so is not FREESTANDING.

Also, a oil refinery in the Gulf of Mexico is taller than the CN tower and is also Freestanding (technically), but half is submerged under water and therefore does not count.

Last note. BURJ DUBAI is a building in Dubai that has surpassed the height of everything on land (including the antenna), therefore is the tallest thing on Earth (630M). Unfortunately, the GUINESS WORLD RECORD book will not give that title to Burj Dubai until it is completed (2009). So, CN tower will remain the tallest freestanding structure on Earth for another year or so.

In terms of area, the biggest would be the Pentagon in D.C., USA
