Just Wondering

ha ha...not at all. I mean I am sure if you were like 12 they wouldn't let you in but even then I'm not so sure. I went when I was about 19 and it was amazing, such a blast and there was not one bouncer checking ID's anywhere. Have fun!

You are asking if Montreal is a good place to break the law? No place is good. Whatever the drinking age is is what the drinking age is, and any club that doesn't enforce it is subject to loss of licence for at least a short period. As far as Lindsey goes, maybe they didn't check him at 19 because the drinking age in Montreal is 18!

It depends. Clubs usually card (except the really sketchy ones). Mont pubs that serve food won't card around supper time and a lot of restaurants don't card. But it really depends on the place. And the SAQ (liquor store) cards like crazy usually. Convenience stores sometimes do and sometimes don't, it depends on the person behind the counter.
The fact is, a lot of people (including parents) in Montreal don't really care if someone who is 16/17 drinks. I got caught drinking in the park when I was underage and the cops were more concerned about us being in the park then about us being underage...

In Quebec, a wine drinking society, kids of 16 and 17 having drinks at restaurants or cafes or bistros with meals are generally overlooked. At clubs the general rule is that the more it is in English speaking areas and patronized by boorish American kids just up to get bombed and get laid the tougher is the enforcement. One convenience store chain, Couche-Tard (owner of the Circle K in the States) recently announced it would check IDs, otherwise I have never seen cardings by food stores selling beer and wine except at automatic self-service check out scanners.

Rock
why are you asking?

Maybe I should call the police and have them check heavily on areas where parties might be held.

For some reason, this seems like a sensitive topic for people answering this question....
I went to Vegas a few weeks ago and i got carded everywhere!! So compared to Vegas, Montreal is pretty easy going.

It all depends on:
- where you go(if the place is crowded they will id everyone if not, they might let you go in no problem).
- How you look ( the way you are dressed, if you look older...).
- Who you are with...if one person looks young, they will card the entire group!

I've been going to clubs since I was 17 but I have a few friends that started going younger.
I'm 24 now and sometimes still get carded!
