Is the drinking age enforced in Montreal,Quebec,Canada?

I'm going there during the summer with some buddies and we are around 15-17. I know the age is 18 but if we tried buying some alcohol would we be IDed?

Yes, and Likely.

You do not want to plan on breaking laws in any foreign country; foreign meaning you are not a citizen. You could be arrested, detained, and deported. You have no defense, and no legal representation. Your parents may have to come get you. I am not certain what the sentence or punishment is; but you don't want it. You are looking for big trouble; or just crusin' for a brusin'.

Drinking age is enforced at the SAQ. They will card anyone who looks under 25. I used to work where they sold alcohol and I carded because we got in lots of trouble when we didn't.

It will depend on where you go don't go to the SAQ (hard stuff) they are government run and you will most likely get carded trying to booze. If you go to the depainer (spelling convenience store) and buy beer or wine you may be OK. If not just go down the street and try again there are lots and someone will most likely sell you some beer.

Not that I'm condoning it but have the oldest member of your group go in and the rest of you stay away from the shop. Also if you have some fake ID that is also good as long as it looks reasonable.

Lastly just don't get stupid with the beer!!!! You know the routine no DUI/DWI, don't get into any fights and drink responsibly. Canadian beer has more alcohol (5-8%) than American beer so it will pack a bigger punch, you have been warned.

Like people have said before, if you go to a SAQ (which is where they sell harder stuff like vodka, rum, gin), then you most likely will get ID'd.

However, you can buy beer and wine at most convenience stores as well. If you look confident and act like nothing is wrong, usually you can get away with buying alcohol.

If you do get carded, just try some other places, you'll find one eventually that will sell to you. Aim for the smaller, independently owned places.

Pretty Ugly

im 15, I have already buy alcohol but I live there so I know the places to go or not to go........ it take experience :P
If they dont ask your Id, it just luck because they , most of the time, always ask for it. You have to go at the dépaneurs owned by Asians.

Well it depends on your looks, if they suspect about your age, yes they will ask for IDs if not you are lucky then ;)
I used to work in a liquor store in downtown Montreal but I never asked for IDs :D, I dont work there anymore but I wish you good luck.

Isiah
Depends how old you look. In Canada they're a little more strict with selling alcohol to minors, just look for those Asian corner stores.
