Is the italian language useful in Toronto? |
I am moving to Toronto soon and my husband and I have decided to learn French as it would be useful in the long run. I have been studying l'italiano for an year and a half but will drop that for French.
A part of me misses italian =( Am I making a wise decision? Would Italian be useful in Toronto at all? Ofcourse French would be but what about Italian?..lol..any input would be greatly appreciated. |

Speaking Italian will always get you the best seats in an Italian Restaurant but that's about it!
French will get you the best seats in a French Restaurant too but little else in Toronto which is an English speaking city.
Other than in Quebec, French is not widely used in Canada so best to please yourself and use the language you enjoy most.
P.S. ...you will be welcomed to Canada no matter what language you speak! |

It depends. Sometimes it is useful, because you can run into Italian person, but major languages are English and French. |

Stick with English frst, but I'm sure Italian will come in handy when you go to certain areas downtown (like Little Italy...)
For the most part, continue with the French AND Italian, either one may come in handy one day! |

I hate to say it, but I also feel I wasted my time learning Italian in school.
The only time you need to know Italian is when you are watching a mob type movie and don't want to read the translation.
No, just kidding.
Most of what you may hear on "Sopranos" are dialect or slang Italian words.
Italian has lost appeal vs. French or Spanish. |

Only the italian community speaks italian.
English would be a better option. |

Try using ENGLISH first, most Canadians speak English. If you really want to communicate with Torontonians you should learn all you can about the LEAFS. |
