Is the weather in Vancouver gloomy?

I really like the Pacific NorthWest, it's beautiful! But Portland and Seattle are awfully gloomy.

Is Vancouver often gloomy, overcast, and depressing like Portland and Seattle?

The weather in Vancouver changes very rapidly in the summer. You can sometimes literally see a rain cloud over one part of the city, while there's a bright sunshine where you stand. It makes for an interesting trip planning. However, most of the time it's quite sunny and pleasant, with a low humidity.

On the other hand, winters are very overcast and gloomy. It sometimes rains for days and days. The only good thing about that is that it almost never snows, because it's too warm.

It can be very very rainy.... but that's the price of living in a rainforest. Back in 2000, it literally rained for forty days and forty nights. But when the weather's nice, it's GORGEOUS.

I live between Seattle and Vancouver, perhaps a bit closer to Vancouver. Overcast? You bet, from September to June. That's why we run outside whenever the sun shines. The weather report refers to "sunbursts." I notice with climate change, the autumn is getting windier though. Still no need for air conditioning, and you can still go for walks all year long.

Summers are nice, like Portland and Seattle, but Vancouver receives more rain and clouds than Seattle and Portland.

For example, Vancouver receives, on average, 8.8 inches of rain more than Seattle each year. And it receives 2.7 inches of rain more than Portland each year.

Portland is the warmest of the three, with an average temperature of 6 degrees higher than Vancouver.

So yes, it rains a lot there, and there's lots of cloud cover. But summers are very nice, in all three locales. I've been to Seattle every summer now for several years, and I've seen rain on ONE of those trips, for two days of my trip, and on another trip, I saw light drizzle for one morning. All the rest of the time, it was sunny, and I was there for at least several days on each occasion.

Gloomy is in the eye of the beholder.

To some people the rainy season can be quite gloomy.. however when you realize that we have all these amazing trees and the long growing season because of the rain, it's not gloomy.

But yes... in the months between late October to sometime in March, it can get downright depressing. However when the sun comes out, it's stunning. We really appreciate the sunshine here.

Yeah, it's pretty damn gloomy.
But
Whenever the sun comes out, everyone notices. When the mountains come into view, EVERYONE is in a good mood.
The forests are beautiful. That's the perk of living in so much rain.

Yes.

I moved out here from Toronto. It took me a few years to get used to all the grey, rain and darkness.
