Canada was BUILT by Scots, from the first factors of the Hudson's Bay Company, to our first Prime Minister, Sir John A McDonald, to our railway barons and the engineers and designers who created a first world country from a forest wilderness.

Every part of this broad nation has Scottish roots and history. Where else can you meet a man whose name is Angus McPhail, who only speaks French ? Many of the original Scots who explored the west, married Aboriginal women, so to day we have Aboriginal people who have Scottish family names, but Aboriginal first names, like Calf Child McKay, or Cloud Dancer Strachan.

One of the most famous Canadian Forces reserve regiments is the 48th Highlanders of Canada, based in Toronto. They are affiliated with the Gordon Highlanders.

Toronto has lots of Scots heritage and history, if you look for it.

Jim b. Toronto.

There is, indeed. Yesterday was Robbie Burns' Day and last weekend there were Burns' Nights all over the place. The haggis is, of course, a once-a-year specialty item, but there are Scots in Toronto and it's not hard to find them. You could google up Sons of Scotland, Toronto branch and that would be a good start. There are also several tartan shops where you can buy all sorts of Scottish stuff, including bagpipes and kilts, and they have lists of clubs and associations.
Enjoy your visit!

My Mum's Uncle lived there. Wasn't the first Prime Minister of Canada of Scottish descent? Then of course you have Donald & Kiefer Sutherland. Both Canadians of Scottish Descent. Would've thought there would be loads in the Cape Breton/Nova Scotia area.
