Is there a new law in Windsor where you have to have a Canada id to drink if you are 19?

I have heard that you need to be a resident to drink there if you are 19, otherwise you have to be 21.

The liquor laws are a Provincial responsibility. The city of Windsor can't act on its own.

I live in BC and the laws specify right down to the type of ID is acceptable. Drivers Licenses and passports are acceptable. Unless your drivers license doesn't have a picture. Every time I go to Vancouver on a weekend the bar is packed with 19 year old Americans.

All you need is legal identification that you are over the age of 19. You can use an American drivers licence (photo ID) ...it just has to be legitimate. Probably the same in the state where you live.

Anywhere in Canada, and in the US, you need photo ID with proof of age. A Government Document is the preferred form, whether a driver's license or a passport. Student Cards are not acceptable. In Ontario, the Age of Majority is 19.

Wouldn't that be a dumb law if we didn't allow 20 year old tourists to drink? :p

No, it's an urban legend. It's 19 for everyone.

Don't know, but I have the same impression as Big Bobby Clobber said, that Ontario (not just Windsor) bars can refuse to serve anyone without the Ontario Age of Majority Card. However, I have managed to drink in Ontario without one (probably including at 19 or 20), and I think the actual law must allow non-residents to drink! My parents lived in Ontario for several years when they were in their 50s or so, and I'm pretty sure never got the card.

My advice remains: Drink in Quebec.

Big Bobby Clobber
Th province of Ontario in Canada has always required provincial identification in order to drink

Yes... Yes... it is a 'NEW' Law..... please don't 'use' our country .... it is funny how americans are peeved off that we shop there now that our $$$ is better, yet the under age drinkers all flock here to drink for the nght, and it is supposed to be ok... ha ha ha i love double standards =)
