You can take Amtrak to Seattle, then from seattle to Vancouver, B.C. See web page below. I find their website a little difficult to use at times. See second website for their 800 phone umber. It is easier to CALL them and discuss the route you want.

The Pacific Starlight is an overnoght train that goes all the way to Seattle. Another train goes from Seattle to Vancouver, BC, but you will probably need to overnight in Seattle.

The only other direct border crossing by train is at Niagara Falls, NY/ONT, which you can reach from LA, but it would take many more days and many more connections (at Chicago and Buffalo, Chicago and NYC, or New Orleans and NYC).

You can also get very close to the border using trains to Detroit or Port Huron, Michigan (from Chicago), where there are Canadian trains at Windsor and Sarnia, but would need to cross the border by other means.

amtrak has different border location ...one I know is in new york but their is others after you get to these locations you have to then change onto a canadian train (VIA) and yes you'll have to go through immigration lol

I believe Amtrak would get you pretty close.

You can take the Patrick Swaze model train across the border if you're willing to ride with some weed for Bubbles.

I'm sure you could get yourself to Chicago. But you will have to rent a car to cross the border.
