Is there a way to turn your US dollars into Canadian dollars without having to be in Canada? |
So I'm going to be visiting Canada soon, and I need Canadian cash before i go. I could open a bank account but I have no idea how long it be before I could accuse all the money and a debit card would get here after I have left. I know you can exchange the there but would rather have cash on arrival.
Dose anyone know of any other way of exchanging your money before hand? |

You do not say where you are from and this could make a difference to the answer.
Assuming you are from the U.S.A., you may have a problem. The American banking system does not deal with foreign exchange in the same way that our Canadian Chartered banks do.
I lived for a year in California and tried to change U.S. funds to Canadian. It had to be ordered and then it took close to two weeks before it was available. And I did it WITH a bank account there. I have no idea what additional hurdles you would face without one.
You may be able to find a money exchange at a major airport but I base that suggestion on what I have seen at other large airports and to be honest, I do not remember if the U.S. airports have that service.
Or you could wait and go directly to a bank once you get here. Most Canadian businesses will accept American money though some will give only a part of the exchange or no exchange at all.
For my fellow Canadians who have never dealt with foreign banks, Canadian Chartered Banks are better than most in several areas and foreign exchange is one of them. |

The best way to get Canadian cash is wait til you arrive, then just use your ATM card to get cash out as needed. you get the best exchange rate that way and do not need to carry large amounts of cash. ATM machines are FAR better than the airport moneychangers. There are ATM machines everywhere, so you can get 5 minutes inside Canada and find one. |

Check with your local banks and see who sells or buys"Foreign Currency", they will help direct you to the right financial institution. |

I'm Canadian (Vancouver). Bring your U.S. dollars with you and cash them in at any Canadian bank. However, I suggest you can go to any U.S. bank and do the same. If the amount is reasonable, they should be able to change it on the spot. We are not like Americans that refuse to accept Canadian dollars. Your U.S dollars are welcome here. |

Some banks, usually the main branch, do exchanges. call a local bank and they will point you in the right direction. |
