Is there any justification for someone making the statement: "Toronto looks like a plastic, fake city"?

Why do you come to this conclusion?

That's...bizarre. I'd have to assume the person saying that didn't leave their hotel, and chose a crappy suburban hotel to boot.

And, I'd guess it was an American confused as to how it was possible to have a city without slums and other signs of urban decay.

Nope, Toronto is a real, authentic multicultural city that has a pulse of the real world. Too much Canadian history in toronto to be "plastic".

Hi am an artist been living in Toronto for awhile.I find the city to be a maze of underground paths.while above ground it has it's history, with unique buildings.A vast array of shops with cultural excitement. We have parks, and island in the city, hey movies are made here.I would check with the toronto building codes if I were you? I assure you there isn't one building in Toronto that is all plastic,it is against the fire code,

but I used to hear that the people in downtown were plastic people.I met a few in my travels.but you get that in all cities and even small towns. my dear it is a plastic world we live in,

If you stay in the suburbs or just in the financial core then you might think that way. On the other hand if you get out and about then you won't think that way at all. The city has TONS of trees and a lot of different neighbourhoods that all look completely different from each other.

There is nothing even remotely plastic about the ravines, the Beaches, and the Islands. Check them out. Look up some toronto area photobloggers. Here's one of my favourites and one of the most beautiful shots from it.
