I am so glad that you asked this question!
Many years ago I moved here to Canada from England and I have not regretted it at all - it has been a great place to raise my children and I am proud to call Canada my home.
I live in Southern Ontario which is the area that you mentioned and I have built a website to tell everyone about the area in which I live.
http://www.discover-southern-ontario.com will give you information about the climate, the various towns, cities and small villages of Southern Ontario. I also have lots of information about the Nature & Wildlife of the area.
I must also say that when you move to another country, you do give up the security that living in your home-town gives you and the first few months can be lonely while you make new friends, but if it is something that you would like to do, then go for it!
At the end of our lives we don't usually regret what we DID try, but many people regret what they DIDN'T try!
Good Luck with your decision! |

Summer in southern Ontario is just the same as summer in Michigan. We can wear shorts most days. We have been having drier summers lately, so expect that and it can be very humid. There can be smog alert days (usually very warm and humid) you will need to be careful if you have respiratory problems.
In Toronto you can attend a Blue Jays or Argos game (Ti-Cats in Hamilton). You can go to the Toronto Indy (early July). There is Caribana, a great multicultural event. The National Exhibition (mid August - Labour Day). The Toronto movie festival is in Sept. The CN tower, Casa Loma, Hockey Hall of Fame, Metro Toronto Zoo. North of Toronto you have lots of camping, cottages, beaches (Wasaga Beach, the world's longest freshwater beach). There is always a festival going on somewhere. If you are a fan, Collingwood has the Elvis festival in mid July. There are lots of country fairs that can be fun.
Niagara Falls has a casino (must be 19) and Marineland can be fun.
Windsor has a casino.
If you could narrow down exactly what you would like to do(your interests) or exactly where you would like to be, I'm sure you would get a more detailed answer. |

The southern parts of Canada have weather EXACTLY like the northern states of the US that border them.
Weather does not recognize man-made borders.
The weather in upstate New York will be the same as the weather in Canada when you step across the border. |

i"m an American been living in Canada for 30 years. i came up from Kansas to the Toronto area. Ontario is just like Kansas the seasons are the same. Ontario has hot humid weather in the summer where Kansas has hot dry weather in the summer. both have about the same type of winters. if you check out info on different provinces you will find there are states that are the same. if i had to choose U.S.A. or Canada i could not i love both the same. |

Toronto's climate is moderate for Canada due to its southerly location within the country and its proximity to Lake Ontario....It has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and generally cold winters, although fairly mild by Canadian and many northern continental U.S. standards. The city experiences four distinct seasons with considerable variance in day to day temperature, particularly during the colder weather season. Due to urbanization and proximity to water, Toronto has a fairly low diurnal temperature range, at least in built-up city and lakeshore areas. At different times of the year, this maritime influence has various localized and regional impacts on the climate, including lake effect snow and delaying the onset of spring and fall like conditions or seasonal lag. |

Alright, read carefully 'cause I'm only going to type this once: Canada is EXACTLY like the states except we're friendlier and more laid back. Almost all things you like to do in the states you can do here. |

I don't like it much since i live in a small town but it's not too cold, mostly warmer than newyork. In the city you can do anything you could do in America it just looks different and people here are obsessed with outdoor activities. It's also very pretty if you're into nature. |

Summer is summer in Canada. I went to Windsor when I was 19 b/c of the drinking age and sent a fair amount of time at the Casino and local pubs. Went wearing shorts and a tee-shirt. |

Some parts of Ontario are even further South than the USA. So no it's not much different. But I did have one American think that Canada only has 8 months of sun and that we are without sunlight for the other 4, so who knows. |
