Homelessness is growing, especially with the lumber industry fall-out (most tell me they were originally from a resource-based town)
But, Mayencourt's Safe Streets Policy has moved the problem out of the popular tourist areas, so it's not as noticible.
Hastings and Main will shock and awe anyone. I can't think of any other city I've visited that has a neighbourhood that bad.

Remember that an area called a cesspool in Canada is a fairly decent poorer neighborhood in the eastern USA. Other than the downtown east side, Vancouver is a great place.

Its funny what we Canadians consider s cesspool........Its laughable what I grew up referring to as the ghetto, then I took a trip south of the border and found out what a real ghetto is.

How can you call Vancouver the whole city such? yes the east hasting area is one such pocket but its not a cesspool and that too just a short bit-otherwise Vancouver is a BEAUTIFUL city and we are proud Vancouverites-
every home has a waste bin and so every city has its rough areas too!
