Vancouver BC Canada is young as cities go. as a matter of fact, Canada's pacific coast has the last unscathed and natural beauty in the world.

Vancouver's setting, at the foot of the mountains, is awesome, breathtaking and gorgeous!!

real estate is expensive because Vancouver is still incomplete. it is, after-all, part of the pacific rim which has become a joint business concern in the world.

as for the cost, well you get what you pay for. many people who visit or move to Vancouver aren't well-to-do but they feel rich for being part of it all. if you aren't driven by greed and your needs are simple you may still live a full and affluent life.

"The Economist" says Vancouver is the best place to live in the *world.* Rents are so expensive because so many people want to live there! :)

I think you just answered your question ;-). Vancouver rents are expensive because everyone wants to live there.

Why does everyone want to live there? Because the climate is great, the lifestyle is similar to California, and there are plenty of jobs available.

Rental prices are all about supply and demand, much like any other product. If you have three people for each apartment that is available for rent, you can get a higher price than if you have one person looking for a place and three apartments are available.

I don't think it is expensive for the renting in vancouver... Look, if you are the owner to invest your money into the property market (O.T. house) around C$500,000.00, the percentage of the return to you is around 3% (C$1,500.00 x 12 months = C$18,000.00 annually) to 4% (C$2,000.00 x 12 months = C$24,000.00 annually) and owner have to response the property tax, maintainance, and some of the miscellaneous expensive. So, it is the LOWER revenue to compare with the rate from the bank interest of the GIC fixed deposit

And, you may say it is only much expensive to own a property here as people liked to come here all over the world

I believe Vancouver has the highest rate of immigrants coming in. Either Vancouver or Toronto, but pretty sure it's Vancouver. This means that every month, more people need housing, and housing demand goes up.

Plus they're close to Seattle, which has a booming real estate market, so it catches on in the surrounding big cities.
