Mississauga or Oakville?

Please indicate why? I am new in mississauga, looking to rent a 3 bedroom house. I have been told that Oakville is nicer for a young family like mine. Please advice with reasons.

We just bought a house in Mississauga though its a larger one (5 bedrooms). Its in the newer developments of Churchill Meadows.
We looked in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville and Milton. Of all the four, we found Mississauga to be more...prestigious in some manner, more developed, more shopping and services etc. But the prices are far more...we paid so much more for something similar in Milton for example.
Proximity to downtown Toronto and my dad's workplace near Square one were big factors and Churchill Meadows fit the bill.
We live in between Streetsville and Lisgar GO stations (about 8 minutes drive each) so they are convenient. Milton though only has one GO station and I dont know of Oakville.
You should consider price ranges, proximity to locations of importance to you, the area and the location (i.e. services, important stores for grocery etc., hospitals, schools) and so forth.

Good luck finding something perfect for yourself:)

Oakville is awesome and Mississauga is magnificent.

Both are equally nice. You may want to rent close to your work, schools, etc. Look around for your price range.

I would say Mississauga, only because it is closer to downtown Toronto when you want to go into the city. I would recommend the south east part of Mississauga (ThePort credit or Clarkson areas) for families. Port credit has a great small village feel, and it is right on the water. The schools are good in the area, too. (I teach at one of them). I'm not the biggest fan of the rest of Mississauga, as it is doesn't have much character or charm with the exception of Port Credit or Streetsville. South Oakville is nice, but super expensive! The north part of Oakville (near Milton) is recently developed and too suburban for my liking.

There are very nice areas in both places. Truthfully, all the really nice places, the areas that aren't like Etobicoke or North York, are right on the lake. And in both places rent will be sky high if you are within walking distance of the lake.

And if you're not, you might as well live in Scarborough. It looks the same but is much cheaper.

Both are nice but I prefer Mississauga. It is larger and there is more development there. Also, it is closer to Toronto which is great if you want to work there. There are better malls in Mississauga than Oakville. I used to go to Sheridan College and Oakville Place mall is fairly small. Square One is great. There are lots of jobs in Mississauga.

For families - jobs are available in Mississauga, there are park areas and lots of activities at areas like community centres that you can take your kids to. There are lots of schools so rent in an area that is close to a school so your kids won't have to travel very far..

Well I live in Mississauga, and I feel that there isnt much to complain about here, but I guess the same goes for Oakville as well.

Uhhh, well if you plan on living around City Centre (City Hall, Square One, etc.) in Mississauga, the traffic is getting pretty bad in that area. They've been building apartment condos all around City Centre and more and more people are moving into the city. There is traffic at almost any time of the day now. But then again, with the main library, museum, city hall, Square One, etc. all in the same area, that was probably expected by many people.

That's about the only thing I can really complain about in Mississauga, and its just around City Centre. I dont go over to Oakville much, so I dont know too much about that area. If you plan on living near lakeshore, I think both Mississauga and Oakville are great. If you plan on going to downtown Toronto often, then for proximity reasons, Mississauga would be better. I dont know, both areas are great places to live. I guess, just try to find the best but affordable house possible, haha. Good luck.

There are really nice places in both Mississauga and Oakville. The Glen Abbey area is nice in Oakville and Port Credit in Mississauga is gorgeous. Both areas have a lot of schools for your kids as well. If you are looking to rent a 3 bedroom house in either area though be prepared to pay at least $1,700 per month for rent.
