Moving back home to Vancouver, Canada?

After many many years living in the UK I have decided to move back home to Canada, namely Vancouver..... British Columbia area. I need to know what areas there are around Vancouver that have affordable real estate? I know it's expensive! Are the Islands cheaper? I am going next week and taking the wife, so only have one chance to impress on her how better our standard of living could be, heard whistler is pretty reasonable? She want a water front or mountain view lol?

Thanks

It depends on your definition of 'affordable' Vancouver is one of the most expensive real estate markets in Canada. Mountain/sea views are generally at the top end of the price scale. Vancouver Island is a little less expensive but by no means cheap. This link should be helpful.

Try Salt Spring Island. It's not so expensive yet and it's not very far from Victoria or Vancouver.

WOW. Waterfront or mountain view thats cheap eh? GOOD LUCK!

check out www.mls.ca this will give you an idea what houses are going for.. most ppl are moving to the fraser valley as its the only way to get a house at somewhat of a good price, and there are mountain views.. White Rock, BC has mountain and water views all in one.

Whistler is NOT affordable. It is getting extremely expensive because of the 2010 Olympics. It will depend on what kind of job you can get. If you need to be in Vancouver, Maple Ridge or Langley aren't bad, but everything in the Lower Mainland is expensive. If you can and want to live farther from Vancouver, there is the Okanagan, which can be almost as expensive, or the Kootenays. Prince George is quite affordable, but it gets cold and is 8 hours from Vancouver.

Maybe???

A waterfront or mountain view home in Vancouver starts at around 3 million dollars. A 1 bedroom fixer-upper in the middle of the lower mainland costs about $500,000.

nm
