I've flown to Canada 4 times this summer and you need a Passport. A drivers license or state ID makes it easier going thru U.S. security |

You won't need a passport until 2007 (Dec. 31st, 2006). Right now she will need a photo ID and an original birth certificate. Hope she has a good time! |

There are two kinds of documentation you need to worry about: what she needs to get into Canada, and what she needs to get back into the United States when she comes back.
The permission to enter Canada is called a visa. Generally, if she is just visiting Canada for a short time, they will grant her a visa when she gets off the plane. However, if she is going there to study, to work, or to stay for a long time, she will need to apply for a visa specific to her situation. Since I don't know more details, I can't give specific advice, but you can look this up on the web.
As far as getting back into the States after her trip, she will need proof of citizenship for the U.S. to let her back in. For the rest of 2006, the U.S. will accept a birth certificate and a photo id, but starting in 2007, everyone will have to have a passport to return to the U.S. from Canada. If she has a passport now, she's definitely good to go.
And please tell her to enjoy her trip for me! I have lived in Canada and also visited it many times. Since you posted this question in the Calgary section, I assume she's going to Calgary. I visited Calgary on my most recent trip and I had a great time. |

Depends on her age>
A passport is the best ID- If not-then and ID card, drivers, birth certificate are all good. The more ID she has the better. |

Right now, just driver's license or some form of government picture ID with a birth certificate. after Jan 1, 2007, she will be required to have a passport. |

They say you only need picture id and a birth certificate but my mother and grandfather go into the US a lot and find that they have been asking for passports anyway. You will need on officially in a few months anyway so you might as well get her one. You can pay extra and usually have them expediated. Oh an if she is underage she may need a letter of permission from you to leave the country. If she is underage you should contact the Canadian embassy to find out exactly what type of letter you need to send with her http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/washington/tourism/default-en.asp. |

She will need to watch the movie "Strange Brew". Make sure she studies it well she will be asked questions upon arrival. She will also be required to speak the same way "a". Dont know what that's all aboot. Wish her luck. |
