Of course not. This question would make more sense if it were that she was born in France but left for NYC, then maybe you could wonder if she is considered French. But Montreal isn't France. It's a multicultural bilingual city. I'm English, my parents are English, and I'm a 4th generation Montrealer. |

"Hi" .....and she's "CANADIAN", she was born in Canada....so it's as simple and uncomplicated as that ! *lol*
...and unless she immigrated to the U.S.A and had her status changed legally she is still a Canadian and It doesn't matter where she lives now or what language she speaks ! Remember Canada is multi-lingual with our two official languages , namely French and English but as we are also mult-cultural many other languages are spoken as well but we are all Canadian !
Hope that clarify's it for you ! *S* |

You may be born in a Quebec city, and you may have a French name like Lesage, Dufresne, or Gendron, but if you can't speak the language, you are not French.
Your friend was born in a Canadian city, so that makes her Canadian by birth. If she never applied and changed her nationality after moving to USA, then she remains a Canadian living in New York. She may consider herself American, but not according to the US Government.
And by the way, even if she came back to Montreal to live, she still would not be French Quebecois, but rather she would be considered an English Quebecer. |

She would be "French" if she was born in France.
The people who speak French are "francophones", they aren't "French".
Your friend is Canadian unless she became a US citizen.

I guess it depends whether she was born in Montreal before or after 1763. |

No, I think she would be considered Canadian if that is what her citizenship is. She's not a French person if she doesn't speak French. |
