The train is called via rail. Usually its vancouver to alaska. here is a web site you can Visit.

If you are 60+, you travel 2 for 1 on Via train. It's worth watching for specials too.

A great way to go from Canada to Alaska is to pick up the Ferry, from Bellingham, just south of Vancouver, in the US, or from Prince Rupert towards Skagway.

You can ferry hop from one of the stop offs or take the local train over the mountains from Skagway into Whitehorse. No train from there but I guarantee you will enjoy the train and boat back just as much..

Trains here aren't like in Europe where they are the cheapest way to travel... across Canada on train I would venture to say is a luxury...Some people I know take a train some of the way and switch to grey hound or even rent a RV or a car and camp. The eastern province by car are fun... lots to see and lots of places to stop and camp. Ontario and Quebec are great for driving as well...Once you hit the Prairies, its a bit of a haul. The Rockies are fantastic and then its a a day or two more to the coast.

Dead Day Afternoon
That would be a cool trip but I find the train to be really expensive. It's more expensive than flying.

isotope2007
If you are low budget you cant afford the train, it also doesnt travel all the way across Canada, sorry. You would do better greyhounding it but even that isnt cheap anymore. Time for Plan B

Its expensive!!!!!!! To travel from Toronto to British Columbia it costs (for a round trip) 8 thousand dollars.... and thats just the four day trip from T.O. to B.C. No stopping in between for sight seeing or anything. Good luck!!

Gemna
Try couchsurfing.com for places to stay since you're informal and low budget. But the train is soooo expensive!
