naw, theres no "you're taking my job" type sentiments towards immigrants here. Its a young country and most families are one or two generation arrivals themselves so we accept new people in easily. The donts aren't many but probably best not to comment on similarity to americans (our second cousins not nearly far enough removed).
Do be freindly and open as you'll find most here to be with no alterior motives.

I am a Brit who went over with a work visa for a year and and it is a great place to be. There aren't really any do's and dont's that are any different from the UK - you know, be polite and you'll get along fine with all!
I had no trouble with jobs and worked in a large company where all the employees were Canadian and they were all fantastic to me. I lived with Canadian housemates and have lots of new friends now.
I found also that in BC so many people had relatives in the UK or UK ancestry that people were really interested to know more about life in the UK etc.

Welcome to Canada! We are a country with a large cultural diversity, and seeing that you are coming from the UK and are already familiar with the language and most of our customs, you will likely transition very smoothly. I hope you are able to explore Canada while you are here, from coast to coast our landscape is truly amazing!

If you can get a work visa, come on over and see us ! Be yourself, thats all we ask, be respectful, dont refer to Canada as "the colonies" and you will be fine.

i'm a canadian and i've been in england for a few months...our countries seem pretty similar and different at the same time. just be yourself and you'll find people you fit in with well, canada is really diverse. the hardest thing to get used to probably won't be the people but how long it takes to get from place to another!

You will be accepted by pretty well everyone. There may be the occasional "crazy", but honestly, I don't know of anyone like that personally.
The only don't I can think of would likely not apply to you, being British and all. It mainly applies to those from vastly different cultures who come here and try to conform the country to THEM, rather than them conforming to the country, like it should be.

Brits are very welcome, we're mostly all British ourselves
