Need to choose between Montreal and Vancouver. Help !? |
I would really appreciate any input in helping me to make this decision.
Especially if you have lived in both cities or at least visited them in summer time. |

Montreal. I've lived in Montreal, and been to Vancouver several times. They are both very nice cities. Vancouver is more modern, with lots of nice buildings, parks, people are nice, but it rains a lot. Montreal might be a little "crummier", but it's way more diverse. Every part of the city has a different character to it. The night life is amazing, and they get events from all over the world. There's the jazz fest, just for laughs, auto racing, music concerts. Forget about Toronto being the largest city, Montreal is more prestigious. About the french, it would be better if you knew some french, but the majority of people here are bilingual, and will understand. I'm probably a little biased because I've lived in Montreal my whole life, but I would never want to live anywhere else. |

During the summer Montreal is the place to be. The island of Montreal is English enough to easily get around because they have a lot of tourists. As was already mentioned though, all the street signs are French, but if your staying in the city you don't need a car. Take advantage of the Metro (subway) system.
The best time to come is when the Jazz Fest or the Just For Laugh Fest is going on! |

Here's what I think are the most important factors:
Montreal is much cheaper.
Montreal is a bigger city and has more to do.
Montreal has older and nicer architecture.
Vancouver has MUCH warmer winters.
Vancouver has much nicer natural scenery.
Vancouver is hosting the 2010 Olympics, which will surely be a lot of fun.
They're both great cities. I chose Montreal because I was born there, but either one is a good choice. I |

I'm from state state of Maine in the U.S and was lucky to live in Montreal a short time and stay in Vancouver just a bit. I found the people of Vancouver much easier to get along with. Montreal was uptight. |

Most all signs, etc. in Montreal are in French so if you speak English only you may have a difficult time getting around. Montreal is a beautiful city but if it were I than my pick would be Vancouver. |
