No fire alarm or detector in Canada?

We are staying in a hotel in Nova Scotia, and the fire alarm/detector in the room has been unwired and removed.

The spot it once occupied now has casing and wires, but no alarm. There is no other alarm in the room.

Should we have been placed in this room?!

What do you mean by no fire alarm or detector in Canada???? You should blame it on that cheap hotel room that you are staying at instead of blame it on Canada........ anyways here is my suggestion to you....move to another room or find a better hotel 'n please think twice before askin' such disturbing questions....you can't judge a book by it's cover

sorry your question no fire alarm or detector in canada is misleading !! should you not say instead of canada ...your hotel room ....as we do have them in every bulding home and schoold here....we have fire codes just as well ...are you staying at a motel or hotel ?? AS I know any hotel with standards would never place a guest in a sub standard room without a working alarm ...instead of posting you should be picking up that phone and complaining because by law even if its a cheap hotel you need a fire alarm !!!

pinkpiglet126
That would be illegal. I would ask the hotel about it myself.

My god what hotel are you at?

Not sure about Nova Soctia but here in Ontario you legally have to have a smoke detector on each floor.

Its unsafe to not have one in a hotel room. Especially if you're in a smoking room or near a room that someone may be smoking in.

What also is ridiculus is that they put you in a room where theres wires hanging out of the wall or ceiling.

I would make the staff aware of this and asked to be switched to another room. It sounds very unfit to be staying in that room.

Dangermanmi6
It may have been moved to another location in the room, my company forced me to stay in a crap hotel in downtown Halifax and the detector had been moved to a new location in the room you could see where it had been installed and removed.

You should have gone down to the front desk and complained right away and if you didn't get satisfaction you should have called the fire department there is no way you should have been placed in a room without a working smoke detector.

i'm pretty sure they (the ppl working at the hotel) are NOT allowed to remove the fire alarm without replaceing it ASAP. complain on the hotel and ask why ur room doesn't have it. if u do not feel safe in an hotel room with no fire alarm, ask for a diffrent room. if they do not allow u do do that, then complain on the manager, or go to the hotel's website, contact them and complain there. cause it's not right that ur hotel room has no fire alarm.

and yeah, i agree with the other ppl, u should write that there are no fire alarm or dectector in ur hotel room. ur making canada sound like we don't have a law about fire alarms, and ur making my country sound bad.

and in my province (Ontario) it's a law that u MUST have at least one fire alarm in each floor. the law may be diffrent in nova scotia, but i would still complain on thehotel.

I would take it up with management. If you are not satisfied with that, report the hotel to the local fire inspector at the firehall.

every room should be fitted with a smoke detector, it is the law in Canada

i would ask to be moved or your money refunded,if they don't do it call the fire station and report it
they will be shut down until it is fixed

krakkatinni
Hey, you must remember you are in Canada, you know!

You can't expect the same services, in Canada, as what you receive in a modern country.

I'm not sure what the laws are in Canada, but in the US it would be illegal and the hotel would be shut down by the order of the fire department.

I would not stay in that hotel, who know else they are trying to get away with.
