Ok, I have a question from Canadians who know all Canada very well?

I am thinking of moving to Canada from Australia, but I do not know where to choose for settling, can you tell me a province, city or any specific location with the following characteristics:
1- no Crime.....safest 2- no guns, 3- safe for kids,4- good child care, good schools, 5- no tarffic, 6- reasonable housing price, 7- good jobs in Biomedical science (research) 8- lots of snow

Based on your list (1,2,3,5,6,and 8), you probably won't like Vancouver, BC.

Sounds to me like you are looking for a place like Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. One of the safest cities, great for kids(some of the best beaches in Canada), good schools, little traffic, reasonable housing prices and a thriving research department at the University of P.E.I.. Winters are generally pretty decent with lots of snow, most years. You can go to the provincial web-site for P.E.I. and then also check out mls.ca, click on P.E.I., Charlottetown area and you can check real estate prices. Great place to raise a family but to be honest, bio-medical research, I am not sure of , but anything to do with agricultural research is huge. Good luck and welcome to Canada.

lol ya wont be wanting lots of snow once ya live here mate!
driving on the wrong side is bad enough then they throw white sh-t at ya

I'm an Aussie been living in Wasaga Beach Ontario for 7 years..........not much crime, safe for kids an hour and a half north of Toronto so i guess its abit far for work though thousands do it everyday. bit of a tourist place in summer as its the longest freshwater beach in the world, very quiet in winter, close to ski slopes and cross country trails, snow mobile trails everywhere, good schools, private child care is good here, where a mum has 6-7 kids at her house
never see guns here unless someone is in the forest hunting (in season)
lots of chipmunks,squirrels and SKUNKS

the beach is lovely, sandy just like at home
nice community, where ever you end up hope you enjoy Canadian life
you will miss Aussie food but ya get used to it
all the best

happy day (sickofviolations)
spruce grove, AB.
i have family there and would recc. it for safety and family friendly. and alot of snow. it is about 20 mins from edmonton if you need to go to the city. but it has all the major shopping you need, and is still a small city and friendly

While we have strict gun laws in this country, Toronto is having large gun & gang problems at the moment... so not there...

You'd probably do well in the Prairie provinces (Alberta, Manitoba and especially Saskatchewan), they're starved for workers and they meet all of your other criteria.

I also would not recommend Quebec, especially if you have limited to no French skills.

Depending on what's important to you:

National crime rate is around 7518 crimes per 100000 population. Only five provinces are below this level; Ontario (5689), Quebec (5909), Newfoundland (6055), New Brunswick (6111), and Prince Edward Island (6793).

Unless you pick a major urban center (like Toronto Ontario, Montreal Quebec, Halifax Nova Scotia, Vancouver British Columbia, Calgary and Edmonton Alberta, or Winnepeg Manitoba ... the presence of guns will go WAAYY down.

Again, the same scenario is there for "safe for kids" criteria.

Child care is probably best in Ontario, but you'd have to look around a bit. Schools (for children) are pretty equal across the country ... Quebec schools might prove challenging, since they are taught as "french first" in terms of language.

Traffic is relatively low no matter where you go in the country - except for themajor centers, like Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal, and Qeubec City.

Housing prices are lower in the rural areas than urban centers; they're also lower on the East Coast and the Prairies than they are in Quebec/Ontario and the West Coast (including Alberta).

For snow ... either be in/around the Rockies (Alberta and BC), or simply the northern portions of any of the provinces.

The final kicker: research jobs in biomedical are relatively hard to come by. The "hottest" places for this kind of job opportunity happen to be Victoria/Vancouver BC, Ottawa ON, Toronto ON, Montreal QC ... all of which are traffic-congested, gun-toting, high-priced, urban crime-centers.

Even living in the neighboring semi-rural communities isn't going to help much ... you still have to get in and out of the larger centers for your job. With that in mind ... how far do you want to commute every day? It's not uncommon for those working in Toronto to have a 1.0-1.5 hour (30-90 mile) commute ... each way.

BioMedical Science sounds like Montreal or Toronto.

Both are cold as hell from Christmas to Easter. Both have some crime. However, Toronto's pharma industry is clustered around north Mississauga ... so you could actually live in a small town well outside Toronto and enjoy a reasonable commute to the area. For example, Caledon is a nice small town ... it should be about 30-40 minutes in rush hour traffic to GSK's offices.

Waterloo, Ontario is a high-tech centre, but I'm not sure if that translates to pharma. I believe there are some pharma's near Guelph or Waterloo (which are not too far apart). If you settle in that region, you have the advantage of being 90 minutes away from one of the largest cities in North America, but you can live in a small city, small village, or in a completely rural setting on a farm if you like.

Hi, I would say you should live in Edmonton Alberta. they have Cheap houses, or Cheap places for rent. every time I've been there, it seems safe, The traffic isn't really bad, I would say it is worse in Toronto. You could easily find a job in Edmonton or 10-15 minutes out of town from Edmonton. they are always hiring there. They have lots of Snow in the Winter. I just don't know about the schools, you would have to find out from someone who lives there. They also have the Biggest Mall on the West Coast. West Edmonton Mall, with all kinds of things to do, Ice Skating, Swimming, Waterslides, Mini Golf, Amusement Park, Shopping, Nightlife, all inside the Mall. Hope this helps.

Someone mentioned Edm. Alberta and you were given some bad information. There are lots of jobs here, actually lots of work all over Alberta and Sask. as we are in the midst of an Oil Boom (it won't last forever). Over the last few years there has been an influx of people looking for work which they have no problem finding. Problem is that finding a place to live is next to impossible now. The price of houses has sky rocketed and rents are now ridiculous. So beware, the jobs are here and though construction is going gang busters it has not kept up with all the new residents.
The University of Alberta Hospital is world renowned for it's research facilities especially in cancer research. That's where I'd start a job search if coming to Alberta. The Alberta Research Council would be another, I'm certain they must have web-sites.
Just wanted to give you a word of warning. Good luck whatever you decide.

Judging by your criteria...

Welcome to the Yukon, enjoy your stay in hell.
