Current Requirements for Entry Into Canada

Visas are not required for U.S. citizens entering Canada from the U.S. You will, however, need:

proof of your U.S. citizenship such as your U.S. passport (For information on obtaining a U.S. passport, check with one of the regional passport agencies located throughout the U.S.) or certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the city, county or state in the U.S. where you were born. If you are a naturalized U.S. citizen and do not have a passport, you should travel with your naturalization certificate. A driver’s license, voter’s registration card or Social Security card is NOT valid proof of citizenship.
photo identification, such as a current, valid driver’s license.

No, not if you are a U.S. Citizen, at least not until January 2008 or later. (see http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html )

You will need a photo I.D. such as Driver's License, and proof of citizenship such as birth certificate.

Some Canada Customs Officers have started asking for a passport, but it's not law (yet). Haven't been asked yet coming into the U.S.

If you're a U.S. citizen, driving into Canada will only require some form of photo ID (such as a driver's licence), and possibly a second form, such as a birth certificate. You do not need a passport to get into Canada, but you may be asked for one when returning to the United States.

A lot depends on who you get at the border. Some customs agents are very polite, and only ask that you answer a few simple questions before sending you on your way. Others can be quite rude, give you the third degree, and question every answer you give. There's absolutely no way to predict what your experience will be.

I cross several times a week, both for work and for personal reasons (visit family, shopping, etc.). Crossing into Canada is always much easier than crossing into the U.S. (we're not as paranoid on this side). Whatever forms of legitimate ID you have, bring them along, and have them ready, and you shouldn't have much trouble.

If you are driving you DO NOT need a passport to cross the bridges..if you happen to have one then bring it..a drivers license and birth certificate for any minor children is enough for now

crooky
no, drivers license will do.

If you are traveling by car a passport isn't required for the time being. Be sure that you have your Drivers license or State ID.

It's a smart idea to carry a copy of your birth certificate, since they might ask for that when you cross the border.

PASSPORT NOT NEEDED UNTIL 2008

Just make sure you bring your ID

Houston Pro
Yes...when I was in Detroit they needed a passport for me to cross into Windsor to get to the casino...same thing applies to Niagara Falls.

Hope this helps!
