Ottawa vs. Quebec?

I have 5 days to spend in Canada. I can either go to Ottawa or Quebec City. Which city would anyone recommend over the other and why? My wife and I enjoy architecture, and just the feel of being in a great city, and most of all GOOD FOOD! To give you an idea, we have been to Halifax, NS, and thought it was just OK. Our favorite cities are Munich, Prague, and Edinburgh in Europe. I like London, she didn't, we hated Zurich. Hope it helps. Thanks.

I live in Ottawa and I love it. You'd have a wonderful time visiting the Parliament buildings, various museums including the Museum of Civilization and the Museum of Nature, touring parts of the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers as well as the Rideau Canal. As well as being the nation's capital, Ottawa is also a university town with the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. When I visited Austen Texas, I was reminded (a bit) of Ottawa.

Quebec City includes the oldest walled city in North America. Part of the old city is actually managed by Parks Canada it is such a treasure. Inside the walled city are beautiful old 16th and 17th century buildings, and lots of wonderful restaurants and shops. Quebec City has a different atmosphere from any other city I've ever visited ... wonderful.

I'd choose Quebec City, perhaps because I don't live there. If money isn't an issue, you could fly from one city to the other for a day.

Try these websites.

Go to Montreal!

Definately Ottawa.

Though Quebec City is beautiful and has a lot of culture, it's completely French, and if you don't speak it or read it, you will find it hard.

Ottawa is completely bilingual; signs and directions are in both languages (English and French), and many people can speak both languages.

Ottawa is also the capital of Canada, so it has all the beautiful old parliament buildings, the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal, and all the museums.

The War Museum is AMAZING. It even has windows that form the Norse code for 'Lest We Forget". If you come to Ottawa, make sure to go to the War Museum.

Ottawa also has the Museum of Civilization, and the National Art Gallery with amazing exhibits.

Then there's the scenic drive on the Ottawa River Parkway, where you see the Deschenes Rapids and the Ottawa River.

Because the French and the English have rather different public nicecities, I find Ottawa to be more polite and comfortable. They are both great (Quebec City and Ottawa), but Ottawa is definately where you would feel safer.

Ottawa also has a ton of great food. A huge variety.

Hope it helps!
Cheers

They are both really beautiful cities, but if you're looking for architecture and that European feel, I'd go with Quebec. However, for good food, I'd go with Montreal or Ottawa...

OK I'm from Canada!!! I live an hr from Ottawa and if i would have to pick between Ottawa and Quebec city i would pic Ottawa..!!! Ottawa is very bilingual but Quebec city is very very french!! Lots of ppl there are rude. Depending on what you want to see. There are nice things to see in Ottawa ( sense it is the capital of Canada ) I would go there before Quebec city by far!!

Suggestion: Spend a day or two in Ottawa (but eat across the river in Hull or Gatineau!) and check out the national museums. Take a leisurely day long drive into the Laurentians, stopping to dine at one of the great country restaurants or auberges, toward Montréal. Spend the remainder of your holiday at Montréael. Save Quebec City for a later time.

If it's for the achitecture go to Quebec city. it's really beautiful it's french style and the food is really good too.

Montreal too (it's 3 hours drinving max from quebec city), 'cause the food is WWWWOOOOOOWWWW. You have tones of choices!!! For the architecture, go to the old port it's really nice, 'cause there is french-irish-italian influence, but more french.

Go to this website, it's the official website of the province of Quebec:

Go to Montreal. Architechture is better restaurants are better. Ottawa rolls in the sidewalks at night their's not much to do. Quebec city is not as nice as Montreal.
