Well, I am 69 years old and never ever have had a problem.I get a thorough health exam each year with specialized services every 2 years(because of my medical history) and other than the usual wait in the Doctors office, no problem. Never pay a dime.Example: I went to my Doctor and he saw a mole on my face and said I should have it removed before it grows into full skin cancer. An appointment was made with the surgeon at the local hospital and I went 1 week later. He examined it and now I am to have it removed next week in day surgery. Cost to me, NOTHING.
I say listen to Canadians rather than the ignorant critics in your country. |

It's great. Sometimes there is a long wait for a specialist but only if it is not life threatening. |

I watch a lot of American news (assuming thats what you mean by "my country") and I can't believe half of what I read about it. Our system certainly isn't perfect and people tend to take it for granted sometimes (going to the emergency when it isn't one and getting pissed when it gets busy there because of the needless cases waiting) but it certainly works better then the system I have experienced in the States. At least we all have a minimum of care regardless of whether or not you can pay for it.
When my middle daughter was born she spent 2 weeks in the ICU and after our health care paid the bill all I was left having to pay was $109 for the private room my wife had for the delivery (the insurance only paid for a semi private room so I had to pay the difference). The care for my daughter was close to $100,000 so all I can say is thank God for public health insurance. |

its really not that bad that all, they say on the news that you can die waiting for surgery or whatever but really the canadian health care system is fabulous. |

Health Care in Canada is our proudest accomplishment. Although not perfect and waits do happen (a lot)...BUT, life-threatening issues are taken care-of, no question, no cost. The people that go to the ER for the sniffles or sore tummy ruin it for the actual sick patients. |

Thank you, chuckles. Exactly right. It's also a great deal cheaper for individuals than the very best US health care, and I think Canada's medical professionals are every bit as good. We're a bit hampered sometimes, as in many areas, by our smaller population. It's much easier for a hospital handling 10,000 cases a year to have expensive specialized equipment than one handling 1,000 cases. Anyone who has extra cash for medical things can go to the US and pay for it if they want. Most of us can't afford that. I personally have been very happy with the system we have in Canada, and am very pleased that I was able to receive very speedy cancer treatment that didn't take me the next 20 years' disposable income to pay for. |

It is not as good as the very best American medical care. But is is better than what 80% of Americans have for coverage.
And a lot better than what the US critics, who generally have top insurance, make it out to be. |

If you are dieing it's great. If you are not dieing any time soon expect to wait. The system is stretched to the limit and needs an overhaul. |
