Don't wear high heels
and blue jeans really are NOT warm pants ,
courduroy pants are much better, and you can get long underpants too, natural wool long undies will keep you warm even if you're outdoors all day.
Natural Fibres wintercoats (wool or "down") will keep you warmest, and most comfortable, without sweating up a storm if you go indoors for a while. High-tech modern fibres and brand-name mass-produced jackets are marketing hype. I find that they prevent some cold but they don't really feel toasty warm in cold weather like natural fibres do, and if you go inside a building with synthetic insulator coats you'd feel too hot and sweat a lot.
Best things are wool sweater, wool or down coat, get a wool or acrylic winter hat we call a "toque" here in Canada, extra wool socks, (warmer and softer than cotton), and get a wool (or acrylic) scarf here too.
To be honest, get leather mittens instead of gloves. Mitts go on and off faster and easier than gloves, and you share the heat of your whole hand with all your fingers together instead of isolating each finger from the hand and from each other...Inuit people ("eskimos") know best !!! Mitts !!! Mitts will keep your hands and all your fingers much warmer much longer. Bare hands in your pockets won't do, It would reduce overall warmth.
- 20 C is not that cold really, its invigorating and fresh !
Oh, and don't forget some moisturizing sunblock UV protection for your face, in case its sunny. That will help keep your skin healthy...and sunglasses...Just because temperatures are cold doesn't mean that there's no UV rays, and the bright sun reflects off all the snow.
ALSO if you would be wise, get a French language phrase book or basic, little English-French dictionary. You will get better service and respect if you even try to say something (respectfully) in French language, instead of looking like a stubborn English-only person that they resent or shun.
Enjoy your trip,
Ou est l'hotel ____....
Pardon?
s'il vous plais !
Merci !
Bon Voyage ! |

If you live somewhere warm, you will find the cold even colder than what it is because you are not climatized. Wear a winter coat, sweater, toque, mittens (warmer than gloves), ski pants if you will be outside all day, scarf and winter boots. If you are overdressed, you can always take ski pants off or an extra sweater, but if you get cold, and you plan on staying outdoors, you will be cold. Better to overdress in layers and take the extra stuff back to your vehicle when you get too warm. Have fun and welcome to Canada! |

Wear long underwear and dress in layers. You can add on or peel off as needed. That is the secret to regulating a comfortable temperature.
Be sure to wear thick socks, have good gloves, and a good knit hat. This will ensure that you don't lose heat through the extremities. |

Quebec can get very cold and snowy. Buy a super warm coat, scarf, warm boots, a hat and mitts. The winter has been colder than it has in the last few years so be prepared and have fun! |

You want to be warm, but also comfortable.
Get a standard, winter coat. Under the coat wear a sweater that can be worn indoors or removed, depending on the temperature indoors. Some places can be very hot, other drafty and cold. Wear a short-sleeve shirt under the sweater.
Don't worry about your legs, if you keep the torso and head warm, the legs are more tolerent to the cold and wind. Women even where skirts in the winter here.
You have to wear something on your feet that is comfortable, water-proof, insulating and with good traction on ice and snow. Go with some kind of low-cut hiking boot or something like that.
You will have to cover your ears at the least. You can do this with ear-muffs. I would recomend a touque, if it is below freezing and you are out for longer than a few minutes. It will help keep you warm since most body-heat is lost through the head. Plus you could use a scarf for your neck and to keep the winds from blowing down the collar of your coat.
For your hands I would get a light, wool glove, not mittens. These will keep your hands relatively warm when they aren't in your coat pockets and gives your fingers enough sensation to handle change or a cell-phone. |

I don't live there, but I live somewhere just as cold-Minneapolis. Take a heavy winter jacket, a hat(most body heat is lost through the head w/o a hat), a scarf, gloves or mittens, and boots. In terms of pants, obviously wear jeans, but long johns underneath would be a good idea. |

You definitely need a sweater, dress warmly (coats, sweaters, scarfs, gloves, etc.) Quebec in the winter is really cold. I went there once in the winter and it was really cold. and I went there one in may two years ago and it was cold then also. |

You will certainly enjoy Quebec City. It is a beautiful place in the winter and also in the summer. The city is celebrating its 400 th anniversary this year so there will be all kinds of events. I've been there and people are very friendly. And they do understand english ( not all of them are prejudicial against those who speak a different language.
Yes it is very cold in February over there. I would suggest you take warm clothes and warm winter boots. You can wear clothing that is light and comfortable like those used for ski.
Yes it can get as low as -20 and sometimes colder! But people manage to have a good time! They're having their small bottle of booze and warm up!!! LOL. ( hidden of course)
Happy new year and have a good time in Quebec City. |

Wear a really really warm parka, like a down filled one that wraps your neck, wrists, and your waist area tightly so that the cold air won't get through. Also make sure to wear really warm snow pants, with mittens or gloves, along with a vute tuque and a really warm scarf. Shoes, I guess UGGs or any boot that has fur lining inside or any snowboot works just fine. I used to live in Vancouver, B.C. and it gets that cold during the winter time too some times, especially when it snows. |

I've been to Toronto during the winter. It does get VERY cold. Wear a heavy coat! I have one that's got a fake fur lining and it's heavy suede on the outside. It was warm, but I definately needed gloves and a scarf too. Winter boots... Necessary to keep feet warm... especially if you're going to be in the city walking around. I found it hard to catch a taxi and spent lots of time walking! Keep in mind, I hate the cold, and as I sit at work now.. IN A HOSPITAL, I have on long johns, a turtle neck, and a jacket, as well as my scrubs.
Anyway, the wind was bad in Toronto. Takes your breath when it's that cold, so something to slide over your mouth and nose will probably be handy.
Hope you have fun! |
