it's true, we do

http://cupe.ca/environment/Canada-second-worst

my fellow canadians can't accept criticism (ever), but i believe we need to be ashamed about this, rather than get all uppity about which side of the border we are on.

fix this canada!!

Where are your sources, please? You state what you claim is a fact, but then give no supporting evidence.

As of 2006, Canada still ranked behind USA in the per capita production of CO2 gases.

And if you instead look at the Total amount produced instead of comparing per capita, our production is negligible compared to other countries like China, USA, Russia, and India.

Even small countries like Germany and Japan produce more CO2 than all of Canada in a year, and that is not spread over 9,093,507 square kilometres. Canada has many forested areas and greenspaces. My Grade 6 science class taught me that plants breathe in CO2 and produce oxygen (during daylight hours) which means that we have a lot of space for which the CO2 emissions can be absorbed by the plants. Unlike other nations that are producing so much CO2 in such a small area.

And how much of that CO2 production can be attributed to the Alberta Oil Sands project? That is undetermined. In the last ten years, there have been much more industrialization in many parts of Canada, including areas that have nothing to do with the oil sands. These industries use power, which increases production requirements at coal and natural gas power stations. They produce exhaust from smokestacks in their manufacturing process. There is added daily traffic congestion as more employees are trying to get to work without carpooling, or letting their cars idle in the McDonalds or Tim Hortons drive-thru lane.

If you pick out only the key details you like and discard the rest in any statistical analysis, you can claim just about any information you want.

My advice is to get some reliable websites and get the facts before jumping on your horse to champion a cause. You may also want to NOT make your published questions and answers private. That way people can read ALL your postings and see if you have an agenda or are biased in any way. It is much harder for trolls to hit and run that way.

Interesting...please cite your sources

Dead Day Afternoon
Just don't try to invade because of the tar sands. Last time you tried it didn't work out to well did it?

Mathew H
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the Untied States to whom we sell over half of the oil extracted from the tar sands? Root causes should perhaps be put into consideration, no?

Maybe we should just stop sending our oil down South and make them even more dependent on sources from countries that hate them.

Cate
I just looked it up and that's not even true. So nice try. But I'd much rather be Canadian then american. Loser.

Mexico4me
So I'm guessing you go to work either by bicycle or horse and buggy? How do you heat your home. If you use oil and gas in any form, then you had best get off your soap box buddy. You people are responsible for a good portion of the emissions by buying and using our natural resources.
Geez, and you wonder why Americans get a bad name asking stupid questions like this.

pissy_old_lady
Since there is enough oil in our tar sands to last another 200 years, should we expect your invasion soon?

.
and we flush it all downhill..hahahaha
