Places To Go On A Canadian Road Trip?

Heya, I'm planning a road trip for next year across Canada that will last about 1-2 months (maybe longer if I like places and go off plan) I was wondering if people had ideas of some good places preferrably non-touristy as I want to get the flavour of the land. So ideas for places to eat, visit, see, etc would be greatly appreciated (even better if you could tell me the address or how to get there)

Bridge Lake

Montana Lake, southeast of the community of Bridge Lake
Photo: Montana Lake Resort
Bridge Lake is located in the beautiful Interlakes District on Highway 24, the Fishing Highway, in the South Cariboo region of British Columbia. This tranquil and beautiful area of rolling hills and pine forests boasts approximately 125 lakes loaded with rainbow trout, lake trout and kokanee.

While the fishing in the area is legendary, this is also ranch country, with plenty of trails for horse riding and opportunity for horse riding lessons. Winter activities include snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice-fishing. Summer sees hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, boating and swimming.

Location: Bridge Lake is located on Highway 24, midway between Lone Butte (Hwy 24) and Little Fort on Highway 5, approximately 6 hours northeast of Vancouver, 2 hours from Kamloops in the Okanagan Valley, and 35 miles (56 km) southeast of 100 Mile House on Cariboo Highway 97.

start in vancouver go north east thru the rocky mountains up to jasper then head south east thru jasper national park and banff national park then go east to saskatoon passing thru medicine hat and the swift current reserve then go east again torwards ridding national park near the town of wasagaming once there head north thru the park and go east to lake winnipeg. from there you can go south to winnipeg and then east thru kenora and then north east to sioux lookout. then go south east to thunder bay and continue east until you get to the town of nipigon, from the head north to lake nipigon and go east thru the towns of hearst and kapuskasing eventually south east to algonquin national park. from the head north to val d'or continue east thru northern quebec but it would help to speak at least some french as most of these comunities are completely francophone. continue east along the north shore of the st-laurent and head north at baie-comeau going thru labrador city and the smallwood reserve to the town of happy-goose bay and take the ferry from there to lewisporte newfoundland (its a 150+ mile ferry trip from what i can tell, i travels along the labrador coast and out to sea then turns south to nfld.) once there go south east to placentia bay and take another ferry from jerseyside to north sidney n.s. and from there north to cape breton highlands national park and then go back home.........

If u are coming from the west coast, start the road trip by going to vancouver island first, that ferry trip is awesome, go to victorie, although that's a tourist spot, just enjoy the ferry ride, then go back to vancouver...and go to whistler ....

Kelowna and the whole Okanagan Valley region in BC is breathtaking. Saint John New Brunswick is a great place to go as well and very rich historically.

If you are into fishing, then I highly recommend Northwestern Ontario. The Dryden/Sioux Lookout area is fantastic. There are lakes and beaches everywhere, and the fishing is amazing. There is a lot of hunting in that region as well, but it doesn't sound like you're going there to hunt.
If you happen across this area in the winter, the snowmobiling trails are amazing as well. They are very well groomed, and you can go for miles.
The sunsets are brilliant sitting on the sand listening to the waves at your feet. The stars shine like never before, and the northern lights are one in a million.

Make sure you spend some time in Quebec City and Montreal -- a little bit of old Europe right here in North America

Ignore all the myopic (i.e., unperceptive) losers who say that Saskatchewan is dull and find out for yourself how quirkily interesting it is.

Start with Regina: huge downtown park, RCMP Museum opens in May 2007, excellent regional art gallery. Folk festival in August.

Moose Jaw has very good "Tunnel Tours" (with historical angles) and airplane museum. Cypress Hills Provincial Park is amazing -- an oasis in the middle of the Prairie.

Saskatoon is excellent, too. Note the Indian historical centre, the "Boomtown" museum and a section of town called Broadway. The northern 2/3 of Saskatchewan is all rocks, lakes and trees. Very pretty. Good jazz festival in late June/early July

There is an awesome dinosaur museum in Alberta. It's called the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta. Even Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie went there when they were filming nearby.

When in Manitoba, if you like East Indian food, in Winnipeg, go to East India Company. They have an AWESOME buffet! It is family-owned and they just opened 2 more, one in Ottawa, Ontario, and the other in Montreal, Quebec.

When in Ontario make sure to visit Haliburton County and the Muskoka region. They are beautiful in the summer and fall and they have lots of mountains for skiing or snowboarding in the winter. go to http://www.haliburtoncounty.ca/ and http://www.muskoka.com/
Niagara Falls is always a great place in the summer (even though it is touristy) I live in Ontario and I still take (short) road trips there every year or so.

If you need maps go to www.mapquest.ca you can get a map of anywhere in Canada or the US
