okay here we go Toronto to Winnipeg by Road is 20 hours due to speed zone and everything
Toronto to thunder bay Ontario is 18 hours since it 1657 km from Toronto then to Winnipeg is around 8 hours
Winnipeg to Calgary Alberta is 13-14 hours depending on road and driving conditions
Calgary to Vancouver is 13-15 hours depending on 3 things
road condition, snow in the mountain and traffic in the lower mainland
you can count on about 75-90 dollars a night during the summer for hotel and around 60 in winter all the way to Calgary for hotel pass Calgary you can expect 100 a night unless you used backpacker hostel then about 25 a night
gas wise depending on your car the load tired etc you can think to spend roughly 400- 600 dollars CD from Toronto to Vancouver
it is 4441.5 km from downtown to downtown roughly 50 hours of driving at normal speed, get a good maps and good luck |

Go back on map quest or look on an old fashioned map and figure out your route and how many km's it going to take. From there you can figure out gas $.
When you plan your route figure out if you will be visiting people along the way or "the must go there since we are so close" places so you know where your milestones are.
Set aside roughly $100 dollars a night for hotel and $30 for food & snacks.
Remember to take a camera!! |

The program "streets and trips" will help. You can plug in the speed, and price of gas, as well as ask for directions (based on your specifications), and it will tell you how to get there, how long it will take, and how much it will cost. |

I have the follwing ballpark estimates, in time on the hwy on the TransCanada Hwy portion of the drive for the western provinces. Just remember that when you get into Vancouver, you can take either the DukePt - Tsawassen Ferry or the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay Ferry(both land in Nanaimo on VanIsle). Each will cost you about $50 - $150 dollars one way for a car/truck, depending on how many passengers you have.
Victoria to Nanaimo - approx. 2.5 hrs, depending on traffic, especially on the Malahat(outside Vic)
Vancouver to Kamloops - approx 4 hrs
Kamloops to Calgary - approx 10 hrs depending on how fast you like to drive through mountains
Calgary to Regina - 6 hrs
Regina to Winnipeg - 6 hrs makin good time
Winnipeg to Thunder Bay - 8 hrs watch for mooses!!
the Thunder Bay to Toronto leg is also appreciably long, but I wouldn't want to guess, because its been a long time since I went down that way!! |

If u know
distance from Toronto to ur Destination in Victoria BC
Fuel consupmtion of ur car
and price of gas
i-e if this is a 3000 Km round trip journey , your vehicle runs 10 kms in a liter divide 3000 by 10 it will become 300 it means u will be needing 300 Liters of fuel and average price of fuel is 95 cents a liter multiply 300 to 0.95 it will become 285 $
for this much journey ur Car will be needing an Oil change if u use syenthic oil 45 $ if regular 20 $
5 $ for wind shield washer
7 $ for Regular wash at petro Canada |

I did a Waterloo, On. to Vancouver in August 2002. I spent 15 days on the road visiting the following places: Thurday Bay, Winnepeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Grand Prairie, Jasper, Banff, Kamloops, then finally Vancouver. I did it with a friend and we stayed in hostels or B&B all the way, if I remembered correctly, it was 7000km trip. Hostels are usually $30 a night, cheaper in small cities and more expensive in big cities. Food, we eat fast food or cooked at hostels. So now you have it. Calculate gas with the distance of the trip, food by what you want to eat, and sleepover by the number of nights, using today's standard.
Good luck... it was a lot of fun for me... |
