Well right now the exchange rate is fair, our dollar is a worth a bit more $1.00 = $1.04 Alcohol costs more in Canada and must be bought at government stores. The bottles must be returned to a similar place. Drinking varies from Province to Province 18 or 19 years old. The cost of living is more expensive. Don't attempt to carry a handgun in, even if you work law enforcement, they will insist it stay in a rented locker while you visit (costs money).

Depending on where your going French is the second language of Canada, it would be good to know some basics.

Be sure you know how to read the road signs, they are not the same for other parts of the world. Insurance is required in most Provinces.

A passport is always of value when visiting abroad, even if you don't need it.

Canadians do not consider themselves Americans.

Have fun

I can't get over the poor responses you have received. We have cold in the winter, but our temps are no different than New York state or Michigan, and many times they are colder than us.
In the summer we have warm to hot conditions (depending if you are seaside or inside the city is where this variation comes from)
This country is vast and friendly, lots to do, and our culture is not going to be a huge change for an american.
there are tons of tourist sites online to check out depending on where you want to go. Canada spans 6 time zones and is larger geographically than the US.

me!
you can expect a whole lot of Canadians.

You definately have to go to a Tim Horton's!!! It's a coffee shop/bakery that I go to almost every day.

funny colored money and coins called loonies and toonies

Well that would kind of depend on where in Canada you are going now wouldn't it. It is a COUNTRY with various PROVINCES which have METROPOLITAN CITIES.
I would suggest you do some homework first and find out where you are going, then try to find out what to expect.

Where were you planning on going? Canada is a fairly big country but expect friendly people (my experience) and great scenery, especially in British Columbia or Quebec.
