Maverick

Possibly moving to Calgary next year from UK. Any advice?

Will be going to visit Calgary and Banff in Sept, hopefully will have some interviews lined up by then. Don't want to waste time while there, can you give any advice on best places to look at in connection with living and working? Would especially appreciate replies from anyone who has moved there fairly recently. Where would be the nicest / best value places to live in that area?

It seems like lots of people moving to Calgary....there are many oil jobs for you but it's very expensive for the house and very difficult to find an apartment. I hate morning traffic. Vancouver Island is better for sure!

I don't know about working since you didn't tell us the field you are in, but as far as living, the farther away from downtown you live, the nicer it is. Calgary is way to big a city for me, but an area I fell in love with is called MacKenzie Town. Everything is fairly expensive as far as housing is concerned, but this area is like a little town within a city. Everything you need (practically) is a 5 minute drive away. Grocery stores, hardware stores, barbers, doctors, restaurants, pubs....everything is in this little area. I dated a guy who lived in this area, and if I ever was to move directly into the city, this area would definitely be my first choice.
