Quebecois,do you think Montreal is a cool city to live in?

When you travel to other places other countries, you will see that even if they are third world, they are much better then Montreal. Climate, culture, architecture, food, people, etc., etc.,

I really don't understand why some foreigners like Montreal. As a Montreal born in the city, I find it artificial and dejavu. In order to create a prestige image for it self and to attract naive foreign tourist money, the Quebec government try to bet on the French romantic cachet of Montreal and the fact that they have a city created before the oldest American city. But what Romanticism?

Quebec was colonized by abandoned French settlers who were brought to the cold in first place because they were criminals or prostitutes in France. All the intellectual elite went back to France with all knowledge, good taste and true French heritage that they could had leg to their French Canadian heirs.

Is Montreal really that old and is it really the oldest French city in north America? The spagnard build cities in Cuba long before Jacques Cartier discovered New-France.Now as for French presence, Port-au-Princes in Haiti is the oldest French speaking in the new world.

I won't deny that Montreal is cleaner than New-york or L.A but that's about it.Quebecers are more American than the Americans are.Fashion and cuisine is developing because of a late wave of people from France who brought their savoire-faire.

If you need true culture and romanticism, go to France or Italy.

Am I hearing you right?

Are you comparing Montreal to the Third World here?!?

I think that I have just been struck by lightning... twice!

Get a grip!

If you don't like it here, then leave!

As far as I know, nobody is keeping you here!

Does it really need to be a competition?
I live in Montréal and love it. C'est merveilleux and très, très cool!!! I can also think of many other wonderful cities around the world where I would enjoy living - for a while... I'd still miss Montréal.
You are right, there are many 'third world countries' (as you put it) that are extremely beautiful. No single city has everything, though. There are advantages and disadvantages to all of them.

Travel a bit, if you can, and try to engage with the people living in each place, because it's them who actually give 'flavour' to a city.

I live in Zurich now, which is generally ranked in the top-three of cities to live in in the world.

But Montreal is cooler, and I wanna go home!

OK, the climate's not ideal, but you gotta love it!

GG
Oui! Montreal est tres multiculturel et interessant.

Yes...It's cool.... Just because most ppl can speak in french and anglais.

Montreal is AWESOME!

Go Canadiens!

The climate is a bit harsh though... We just got dumped w/ 20 cm of snow or so....

Although je pense que tu es dur.... Montreal is better than thrid world places, non?

The food and architecture, not so much, but culture pretty much covers a lot of places around the world in other countries you mentioned....so, its cool.

don't insult QUEBEC CULTURE!

If you are comparing Montreal to Third World cities, and Thtird World cities are better in your opinion, why are you even in Montreal? Why do you bother to ask people if they think Montreal is a cool city when you've obviously made up your mind that it isn't?

You are evidently not a native Montrealer, and if you hate it here that much, leave. No one invited you here and no one is forcing you to stay except yourself. There are plenty of flights out of Montreal out of Quebec and out of Canada - be on one of them!
